Garmin talk

It is coming up on 1 yr since I pre-ordered my 750 thought it might share my thoughts on it and compare it to the 350 I had before.

Saw this posted on another website and I believe the 800 series already got it with the last 3.0 firmware update, Garmin HotFix capability will automatically calculate and store satellite locations so that you will be able to turn the unit on and go a lot faster greatly reducing satellite acquisition time.:

I just returned from a trip to West covering over 2,000 miles. The Garmin worked great. It would have been helpful if Garmin could name the waterways you cross like it does streets and roads. I would like to know the name of the smaller streams.

On my Garmin 350 I have thousands of poi's that came with my map. For example; if I select Where to and then type McDonalds, it lists those near where I am. Now my question... I have added an icon for McDonalds and sound, however, when I am near a Mcdonalds I don't see the icon or hear the announcement. I have added pois from Poifactory and this feature works well.

I will start this off with a BIG GRIN!!!

As some of you know I travel almost 100% for work so my 680 is my life line to making client meetings and avoiding traffic and those pesky citations for red lights...LOL

What do I do with it when I try to use the
Garmin POI downloader; it does not recognize
.xls files.

Thankfully I backed up the old map ver and was able to restore it to the 2006 map. But does anyone know how to fix this error. ?

Just a heads up on this one. I am using Garmin Mobile XT on my BlackJack II, WM 6.1 (just upgraded) and a 2mg storage card. When I was using POI loader it was giving me the choice of loading the POI files to the storage card or memory. I was selecting the storage card and Garmin was not loading them. Once I loaded the POI file to memory it worked like a charm. No changes needed at all.

Time for my Nuvi to pass away folks. My wife got herself one of the new 3G iPhones and I've been comparing the map and GPS features of it with my Nuvi. The fact of not having to pay for map updates with the iPhone is very appealing! These days, after a couple of weeks of usng both, I find myself reaching for the iPhone more than the Nuvi.

I recently bought the Nuvi 270 unit. Did all my homework. Brought across a number of POI files. Some of them I decided to activate the proximity alert...by putting specs in title. I also brought across a Redlight set of POIs. Using the Garmin POI loader, I put it on manual, and for antique places, interstate rest stops, historical markers, and others, placed proximity detections on the POIs.

I just wanted to apologize to everyone that lost bluetooth functionality, that followed the directions I posted to backdate the FW on the 7xx series.
Anyone with a 750 should have been ok.

I've been in daily contact with a software support engineer, at Garmin, and he assures me they are working diligently to fix the problems, caused by the release of ver 4.00.

My Nuvi 760 tells me that my traffic subscription will end soon so I take advantage of the $60 lifetime offer I saw on the Garmin site.

I have the Streetpilot C580 that came with the MSN content. The only times I can get content is in thee locations so far in Miami.

Location 1: Inside my house. Not even in the driveway. (Small house so I can actually find the bathroom and kitchen without the GPS.)

Location 2: Inside my office at work.

Last year, our Nuvi 660 was stolen from our car in Maryland. There was a rash of break ins throughout Bethesda in that month. My error was not making a PIN code. I have GPS built into my car but it isn't as robust as the portable/pocket sized versions out on the market. However, the GPS finds the satellite instantaneously over the Garmins (which there is a latent period from turning it on).

since the tourguide alerts for my poi lock up my nuvi 760, is there another alternative available ?

say i travel on hwy I85 and i'd like to know beforehand if there is a Sam's club gas station nearby, i have my poi header as "Samsclub gas tourguige" , with all the locations in CSV format listed.
[ i can't use "specs_D7000", since i am not traveling ON the road]

Can I delete the audio books and pictures that come pre loaded into my 760 to gain some more room on hard drive, without causing harm to my unit?

Although I bought and installed the so-called 2009 Maps into my Nuvi 360 a couple of months ago, the built-in POIs and street addresses are horribly inaccurate. I have entered perhaps a dozen corrections into the Navteq Reporter at http://reporter.navteq.com (if that isn't quite correct, go to navteq.com first).

I downloaded the Garmin POI Loader and a file called Venice.gpx for uploading to my Garmin nuvi 350. I can see the downloaded .gpx file on my desktop but it is grayed out in the POI Loader.

I also tried just copying it to the nuvi but cannot "find" it with any of the standard buttons. Suggestions?
