Garmin talk

First, I am a Rookie. I downloaded a POI file along with an icon. Renamed the icon; i.e. same name except bmp extension, placed it in the same folder as the POI file. Used POI loader to transfer it to an SD card.

The file shows up in the Extras category on my Garmin C530, however, where or when should I actually see the icon which was downloaded? Or are the icons not supported on the C530?

Has anyone found a working combination of a bluetooth cell phone displaying/sending text messages with your Nuvi?

I get a lot of 'work related' text messages that I would like to be able to see with my Nuvi while driving...

I have plotted a route from Massachusetts to Naples, Florida that I have not taken before. Is there anyway that I can get my custom POI's to show along the route on MapSource. The Find function in MapSource does not find the custom POI's either. I have downloaded the POI's to MapSource using the POI Loader.

What are the pro's & con's of purchasing a discontinued Garmin unit. I'm looking at the 650 vs. 750. The 650 is discontinued. One advantage of the discontinued is cost. But what are the downsides.

Also, someone on this forum said the 260 is old technology, what was meant by that comment. I thought the Nuvi 260 was a new addition.

I have a 760 and noticed that track logs worked intially but now doesn't. Where do you turn on and off?

Hello , I am considering purchasing a Garmin nuvi 750 but the description of choice of maps(North America or Europe) and the limited warranty seem strange. Has anyone purchased the 750 with a 90 day labor warranty.

Has anyone heard more on the possible Quarterly Update on Garmin maps and how much they may charge.

I have been out of town this past week with my dad in the hospital. Was in critical condition but is improving pretty well now.

Is it possible to modify the factory preloaded POI's in my NUVI 750?

In the past, I can maintain my Nuvi battery with a standard Motorola cigarette charger. However, is a different story now that I have upgraded to the latest V6.0 firmware...my Nuvi went into computer plug in mode when with the Motorola cigarette charger. It still work fine using the Garmin cigarette charger. Anyone notice this or it is just my imagination?

I am still fairly new at this. I have read several posts here and at other sites which indicate that my unit should not be able to have a route with multiple waypoints.

It is fairly clear that I can not enter tours or routes which are prepared with multiple waypoints. It does seem, however that entering a new via point does not eliminate the previous via point.

I would like to have a MP3 file to use with the Rest Area POI package that announces that "there is a rest area three miles ahead" or whatever mileage I want that would go with the proximity alert that I set. The one supplied with the Rest Area POI does not give distance. Is there an easy way to create or edit the one supplied?

Am I able to get LIFETIME Traffic on my 660 ?

Has Garmin done anything about the late directions on surface streets? Interstate directions are timely but when it comes to surface streets (some six to eight lanes wide) you have to force the next command by pressing the screen to see if the turn is right or left. Garmin should change this if they have not already.

Newbie here....I've downloaded the latest POI Loader, created a folder for the POIs, etc., etc., and downloaded various POIs from this site to the new folder.

It comes my attention that all of distance mileage under favorites are incorrect except current address 0 mile. But they are correct under trip odometer. What's wrong with it? The software and maps are the latest version. I tried remove all favorites and added them back twice but they still show up incorrect distance mileage.

I already downladed city navigator 2009 maps on the sd card from my pc. I like to know how can I add other maps like europe and canads etc.

Is there a way to set up a sound (Like an MP3 File) that can play when you start up the NUVI 350?

As a Garmin "newbie" I have been trying to download a military lodging POI from http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1631. I downloaded it to a .doc file (Excel) but cannot move it from there to my Garmin instrument. I also went to Garmin and downloaded the POI loader. What could I be doing wrong? Thanks. JPaxton
