I saw in the FAQ sheet that the POI loader will not support the 478...Is there a loader I can use or an alternative method to upload POI's.

Nope. Unfortunately not.

However, since that unit can hold 3000 Favorites/Waypoints, you could edit the ones you want to load and include just the ones in your area, keeping within this limit. Then covert them to GPX files and load them to the unit as Favorites/Waypoints with MapSource.
