Garmin 330

I have had the Garmin 330 for about a year and have enjoyed it very much... Has helped several times. It is now discontinued and the 2009 map update is USD 70 as was last year's update. Have found a Magellen 4000 refurbished for USD 90. Anybody have any thoughts? Just stick to what I have and be happy or spend a few for a newer, maybe more modern and better device... Thanks very much for any advice.

My opinion (nothing else)

I have an old saying that goes back to when I stopped trying to have the latest whatevers.

If what you have serves your purpose, keep it.

Just my opinion. grin

C330

Depends on what you want. If you're happy with the C330, why not just keep it until it breaks? IMHO map updates are overrated; you can still get to where you want to go (or pretty close) even with old maps. If you need (want) additional features, then go for a new unit.

Most folks

Unless you travel a lot and do home delivery or work in new residential areas, map updates don't need to be done every year. Every three years probably would be fine. I have not updated mine, as I was able to find people to buy my used units and then I bought a newer one with better features. I would recommend saving your $70 every year and then in a couple years upgrade. The c330 is a very reliable workhorse.
