J.D. Power Ranks GPS Customer Satisfacton

GPS

Interesting

they dont read the comments

they dont read the comments on this site lol
sorry im having a bad day

Power ratings

Very interesting. People who buy online are "more satisfied" than people who buy in a brick and mortar store. Maybe online buyers do a little research and store buyers are gift buyers buying for others and impulse buyers.

Customer Satisfaction

mmmmmmmmm surprising...I wouldn't have thought Tom Tom was that close a second to Garmin from reading some of these posts this year!

GPSr Ranking

I for one am not surprised. I am quite happy with there service, even if I didn't get a free map update when I thought it should have come .

It says they are more satisfied with the overall shopping experience. Probably because they did do their research and then didn't have to deal with the kid at the store who knew less than them about it. Not to mention they probably found it cheaper than at the store.

I totally agree.

I live in a rural area with one decent sized town (pop. 19000)about 25 miles away. When I was looking to buy an HDTV, I went to the one main furniture/electronics store in town. The salesmen who evidently work on commission just jumped on me like vultures. When I came back and talked to someone else, the first salesman pushed him away and started fast talking me. Then he said "You aren't thinking about buying it online, are you?" That was enough high pressure tactics for me. I ended up buying the TV online, it was delivered right in my door and I was much happier. I wish they could just pay these salesmen a decent wage, things would be much better.

On the other hand, we have Walmart and OfficeMax where you can buy a GPS, but the salespeople there don't seem to know anything about them and you could easily get bad advice.

Better to research GPS on enthusiasts sites on the web and read reviews on Amazon.com, etc. to see how people like the product.

Like you said, Absolute, you can usually get a much better price anyway, not to mention you don't have to schlep all over with gas at $4 a gallon.

I strongly advocate supporting local businesses in the community, but as far as most electronics go, I think it is a much superior experience buying online.

Be careful

Be careful if you are buying anything electronic on the web. There are a lot of shady businesses which sells electronics and cameras. I bought my GPSMap 76CS several years ago over the web and I saved about 40% from my local brick and mortar stores. It was listed as a Garmin authorized dealer on Garmin's site. I was going to buy from them again until Sam's Club decided to sell the 750s at $249.

Surprise?

I am surprised to see Garmin so high after the fiasco with their later upgrades/

No suprises here

It probably is time to dump the Garmin stock, like someone said in another thread. After reading J.D. Power rankings and seeing the No Name company as many a round the factory like to refer to Navigon as, closing within 53 points and TomTom almost ready to take the lead. this don't surprise me in the least.

High prices and long waits on the phone, then poor screening by people that have to read about what your telling them before you get to talk to someone that knows the products well enough to be called tech support. cutting those corners in support will hurt you worse than your prices in the end.

Are you listening Garmin?

Right you are sushidan141 and I forgot to note that. Many stores most notably some camera stores in New York City are out to defraud the customer, or provide terrible customer service.

I recommend you buy from a major retailer on the web and check user reviews of the store from resellerratings.com

GREAT REVIEWS FOR CONSUMER REPORTS AS WELL

And right on the heels of this, GARMIN 780 and 760 were listed as the highest rated in CR's last issue (X-MAS Gift issue). Maybe this would help their stock a bit.

!!!

I just goes to show you, you look long and hard and you will always find it cheaper. But then again when you have a problem with it how hard is it to fix and how long will you have to wait.
I went thru 3 magellans and now own a 760 and love it, so I am not surprissed that they rate on the top.
