POI Loader and Zipcodes

When updating my POI files this afternoon, I ran POI Loader, as usual. After about 2 minutes, it simply crashed. No error code generated..just crashed. I tried again. Same thing. I rebooted my computer and ran it again..same thing. I decided to start eliminating POI files one at a time to see if that would make a difference. The first one I eliminated was the Zipcode file. POI Loader worked properly and loaded everything else perfectly. I had been using this file for some time with no issues, but downloaded an update this afternoon. I ran POI Verifier against it, but found no issues except some blank spaces that were filled in by the software. Has anyone else experienced any issues with this POI file?

Everyday is a GREAT day :)

Same here

I had the same problems last night. It locked up when loading then on reboot, the nuvi had an error message 'unable to load poi.gpd' or something like that.

I haven't run that poi through poi-verifier so I don't know if it has errors or it's the length. Is there a size limit for POIs?

It won't load for me on a nuvi 350, v5.60 using POI Loader 2.5.2

Another thing POI Verifier II shows is a HUGE number of duplicate coordinates in the new zipcode file [like 267233. Remember 4 identicals will count as 6 (1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-3, 2-4, 3-4), 5 as 10, etc]. After seeing this I questioned the validity of the coordinates. The old file (which only has 3 pairs of duplicates) has my home town right-on; the new file is way off.

I experimented with the number of identical entries POI Loader will tolerate with my setup before it barfs. 127 identical entries work, 128 will not.

I still have the original ZipCode file which will load. If anyone wants it, send me an email. Miss POI, should the old poi file be put back up as it's obvious the new one has problems?

Thanks.

POI Loader

Hi There,
Sorry, I'm new here, the POI Loader you're talking about, is it the Official Garmin POI Loader?
1-If not, where can I download your POI Loader?
2-Do you know/have a program where you can edit direct the *.gpi files?
Thanks.

G* http://AnkaraHHH.com

file is unpublished

I have already unpublished the file until I can get a copy from my backups to upload. It might be until Monday before I get a chance to do that.

We have a pretty full weekend planned.

Welcome Aboard!

Yes, POI Loader is a Garmin program. More info and a download link are available at:
http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/

There are programs which will convert a .gpi file to csv. (I believe this can be done with http://gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input ) You can then edit it; and when loaded with POI Loader, it will become a .gpi file.

I had the same problem

I had the same problem loading this new file and I talked with the person who added additional zip codes to my original file and Said he had no problem loading on his Nuvi 750 but I could not load it on my 880 so I asked Miss POI to remove the latest one and replace with the previous from one from their backup

Thanks

Thanks for all the responses. At least I know now that there are issues with the POI file and not with POI Loader.
