Garmin talk

My nuvi 2689 shows 94% full but it has a 16 GB memory card installed. When I attempt to update the English language file (471 MB) it can't be accomplished because of insufficient space. Do I have to do anything special to the memory card for it to be used. I can see the card in Windows Explorer. It has been formatted (FAT32), is empty and can hold 16 GB.

I used POI LOADER to load them on my DriveAssist™ 50LMT. Its new. The poi tries to load then says there is a unexpected error during the transfer of the custom POI Files. what am I doing wrong in loading them.

For a Garmin drive smart 61.

I have made a custom route for our Route 66 trip.

Have installed Open Maps.

1) Would you recommend continue using the Open Maps of USA or buy the Garmin USA North America map? I have simulated the route on the Garmin and seems to work OK. Just don't want to arrive in the USA and find I have problems.

I've tried to set up POIs to alert me when ~3 miles away. In the past I've succeeded but I apparently made some mistake that I keep repeating. I know I've made an error as the alarm goes off after entering a parking lot rather than 3 miles off.

This is what I've done:

start POI Loader
remove all previous POIs

start POI Loader
select: units: feet & MPH

New version just loaded and functional!

I need to extend my GTM-60 cable. It appears without cutting the cable (yet) that the cord has some type of ethernet wiring as well as, power wiring.

Before I butcher a brand new GTM-60 cable, does anyone know what actually is inside and what cabling I would need in order to extend the cord about 3 feet?

Now that EPE will not support Google Maps or vise versa, I tried to display the points of Google Earth without success.

Tools > Open in GoogleEarth(tm) F9
=EPE cannot find the path to Google Earth

Help > Does not work

Options > Preferences
= no place to insert the path to my Google Earth Application

How would I display my points on GE through EPE?

Do u need to have garmin connected to wifi to receive free traffic updates?

when I launch POI Loader 273 it tells me to uninstall (same page) which I have to, when I launch it again it re-installs and I can use it only once. I have to go thru this every time.
Has anyone else experience this or have a remedy?

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone that has had a positive experience getting proximity alerts working for custom points. I've tried every tool that Garmin provides, placed legal values in the "Proximity" fields, created valid .gpx/.gpi files that were saved initially to my PC, then moved to the appropriate locations on my unit.

Does Garmin ever update the POI's that come with their products?

I have a DriveSmart61 and want to hard wire the power into my car. When I cut the power cord I found in the standard power cord 3 wires...Red>Black>White. I know what the red and blacker for but have no idea what the white wire is for.

I have being using EPE for years to remove duplication from POI files as well as converting files to different formats.

Recently, the column data changed and I have attempted to correct this to my desired information but I am having no success . Previously, if a problem occurred , I was able to reinstall a download version of the EPE, but this download is no longer available.

I'm looking for a mass POI editor. Something that would allow me to view and edit all my POIs in a flat file such as Excel or CSV.

Each row in the table would be a POI record, and there would be columns for Name, Phone, Categories (comma separated), Symbol, Latitude, Longitude.

I have discovered by Trial and Error that when uploading a route, or creating a route, that you cannot have more that 29 Vias.

Years ago I created some routes for my trip on Rte66 in Delorme Street Atlas. I had to use a lot of bias to stay on the true route. I have converted these Delorme files to GPX XML and loaded one state file and waypoints to my 3597.

What is the latest Garmin map that will work without any problems on my Streetpilot 7200?

some of you might already know me for some old mods of TomTom devices and for the iPhone unlock program ZiPhone.

Anyway, I am here to find people who know well the GCD format.
Unfortunately the only tool I could find until now is RGN_Tool by turboccc (who apparently left the scene).

I got a refurb'ed Nuvi 2598LMT for N.A. 5-6 years ago.
After too many issues with Garmin Express back then, I always used MapUpdater, no problems.
I tried MapUpdater yesterday for the 1st time in years (new car has in-dash), it ended-up hooking me into Express.

Software version updated fine NP.
However it shows I have a free update for Europe but a "Pricing" button for N.A.
