DriveSmart61 standard power cord

I have a DriveSmart61 and want to hard wire the power into my car. When I cut the power cord I found in the standard power cord 3 wires...Red>Black>White. I know what the red and blacker for but have no idea what the white wire is for.
I called Garmin support and she said they (Garmin) don't recommend hardwiring the power because of a 2 amp fuse, I said yes and would install an inline fuse to accommodate that need. I asked about the white wire and she said they didn't have any information about the power cord other than the fuse. She couldn't help me with any information about it. WHAT A WASTE OF A CALL!!
Does anyone here know what the white wire is for?

I'm not surprised. You can't do what you're trying as the connector takes the 12v from the car and transforms it to 5v. Connect it like that and you'll fry your device.

From the description, that power cord even contains the traffic antenna for those models that have a built in traffic receiver. So it should provide the same compatibility as the Garmin TA20 power cord.

That's the right way to do it, or as I've done hard wire a 12v socket and then plug the standard cable into that
