Garmin talk

I'm looking for ideas, I already know about the beanbag, and I don't like the idea of the vent mount and having the cold and/or hot air blowing directly on to the back of the unit! I need some innovating ideas! What do you use?

I was using for some days the street pilot C550 from a rental car, since I liked I decided to get a GPS for my self and have got a Nuvi 260.

While trying to figure out why some of my POI bmp files work and some do not, I think I came across a very interesting issue.
What I found:
Chuck e cheese's worked ok. The graphic shows up in the same spot as the poi that is stored on the garmin.

My traffic trial has expired and I'm wondering how well Microsoft's traffic solution works compared to the default TTN(I think, 3 month trial).

1.Has anyone tried both in the same area, I travel in the DC/Baltimore area and I don't think the radio is an issue.

2.How long does it take for a MS live "send to" to get to the PND, and can I turn my 760 on after I do the send to?

The manual on the 2730 is really lacking. Can someone explain what the settings under Zoom Level Detail do? I would really like more detail when zoomed out. The settings are like Streets: Off, Auto, 120ft, 200 ft, etc. I have tried several settings and never see any change.

Is the GXM-30 antennna mated to a specific GPS unit or can it be used on another GPS after activation? In other words, can I borrow someone's activated GXM-30 antenna and use it with my 2730 to get weather?

I've loaded several POI (csv) files without a problem, but have a question about a speed camera file that I downloaded from this site. Can someone explain the following line:

-111.96098,33.42534,Speed Camera 40 MPH .02300,xx xxxxx xxxxxxxx

So I downloaded the Burger King POI to get started as my first custom POI. I see the file on my 760 when connected to PC. I also can pick a BK from the list at: extras> custom POI menu and it will take me to the BK. I thought that after loading a POI like the Burger King one, I would see some sort of marker at the site of every BK I drove by.

Been having a few issues lately.

First is when I go into USB mode, I get a message that there might be a problem with my files on the device or disc. I get an option to scan and fix or do nothing. I have usually clicked on do nothing as I have not had any problems before. Question is would I have any problems doing a scan and fix?

How do I change the alert sounds of POI's. I've read "Hornbyp's guide to setting alerts with POI Loader" but it is still confusing to me.

I recently got a Garmin Nuvi 350 and the first time I used it, it worked perfectly. But after I updated the maps to the 2009 version, I lose satellite signal a lot. Can someone tell me how I can fix that?

Hi - I went to upgrade my Father-In-Law's Garmin StreetPilot 2820 this past weekend with the CD I bought from Best Buy but XP doesn't seem to recognize the device. Has anyone else seen such a problem before?

Please excuse a beginner's question. I have a nuvi 350 and have loaded the NPR tower, Rest Areas, and KFC onto my device.
Rest Areas has proximity alerts and I do not think the other 2 do.
While driving what do I need to do to have the contents appear on my route map? Is it "automatic"? or do I need to "invoke" them in some way.

Has anyone had a problem with their GTM 20, (or any other car charger for that matter) where it apparently applies too much power?

My apologies if this has already been discussed but I need some help.

I have a Nuvi 260w and have found that I'd like to have a couple of features that I didn't think I'd use originally.

I want a unit that has bluetooth, speaks street names and maybe the traffic feature. I am looking at the 265WT and the 760. Any suggestions on either of them?

I just loaded the Garmin City Navigator NT 2009 Map update on my Garmin C340. As memory on the set was low, the map update is probably loaded on the SD card.

Now when I start typing an address, the next screen shows two rows:
- 2008 NT All
- Ontario, Newfoundland

I have to select one of them to go to next step.

Purchased a GXM30 to use with my 7200. I use the unit mainly when towing a large 5th wheel toyhauler. I had a couple of questions regarding service.

1. Am I better off with the Garmin or Navigon Lifetime traffic service

2. How much is the weather service?

3. What is the best way to subscribe to get traffic and weather?

There are a lot of voices on my 750 in different languages which I will never use. I am wondering if anyone has tried to delete them and if that has caused any problems. Seems like a lot of space taken up for nothing.

Will they be loaded back on every time I do a web update?
