I've had it! Sent back my second 885T. Sick of the constant locking up and the foolish voice recognition. Maybe some day when Garmen improves on VR I'll give it another try, until then, I'm getting the 765T and hoping for the best.

I just acquired a 765T and have previously used the Invisible Shield products on cell phones. I visited their website at zagg.com and they only have a generic 700 series listed for the Garmin Nuvi.

Can anyone confirm that the physical dimensions are identical for all the 700 series including the 7X5.

Stanalones are here to stay they will evolve and intergrate to become total personal communincation devices. Far beyond the static devices loaded into the dashes of automobiles.

This evolution will be very interesting! Stay tuned the future is now !!

Besides,in dash GPS models do not load custom POI's very well.

Hi.

I have the nuvi 885t.

Has anyone else had an error message when using voice recognition search for POI's?

I use the VR and speak "Where to" and that is OK.

Then I say "Points of interets" and that is OK.

Then it asks if I want to search by category or Place name.

I say "Place Name" and an erro rmessage comes up that reads:

New Garmin voice updates are available via WebUpdater or myDashboard (myDashboard will likely find a firmware update but in actuality, it is the voices that are being updated, not the firmware). The version numbers will vary depending on the particular voice. The updates (as far as I could tell) are for the 7x0/7x5, 8x5/8x5 series nuvis...others may have the same updates.

Anyone have any clues to making changes in the voice files that the Garmin 855 voice response system uses?
For example...once the 855 has found an address...it slowly asks "Would you like to start navigaion?"...which requires a yes/no answer. I'd like to shorten that to "Navigate?" or "GO?"...Garmins's wordy files simply slow everything down. any ideas? Thanks.

Folks, this is a bit of a PSA. I was having battery issues with my Nuvi 760 over the past couple of months. I ended up buying a battery on eBay from seller "grade_a_battery" who is located in HK. I spent $10.50 for the battery. I think the tool kit (from a different seller) was $6. I never installed the battery until a week or two ago.

I would be willing to pay someone for their time as I am just way too busy to create these files and the ones that I have tried to create, the alerts haven't worked.

when compared to say a 780? I heard the 255W is going to be very cheap during the holidays, maybe a good $80 cheaper than a 780...

Anyone using this yet? I just got this for $359 shipping included and no tax from ebay. new in box. seems like a good deal. Did a quick search for all the latest GPS out there, and I'm basically choosing this over TomTom Go Live (the latest one) is because tomtom is only giving live service for 1 Month, where Garmin is giving a 2 year subscription. I think it's amazing. Anyone used nulink?

Does anybody know how to remove old version of maps and the software (without disturbing the operation of the newest map). I once posed the question to Garmin and they were not any help. Then, I tried to do it anyway, and had to reinstall from scratch. Now I am left with GB's of outdated maps taking space on my computer.

My 855 crashes at the start of a simulated trip!
Reset does not help.
Any suggestions?

I just purchased a Garmin 885T GPS and was wondering if it is compatible with a Verizon Motorola W766 Entice cell phone. I was particularly interested in knowing wether I could sync and download my address book to the GPS, and use voice dialing to my phone through the GPS.

I downloaded the Garmin POI installer today and I also downloaded the Places to Visit in the US file from here and installed it. Now when I go to Points of Interest menu, all the menu options are gone. The only icon there is one that lets you spell what you are looking for.

Since you are the whiz when it comes to Garmin progs, can you make a prog to remove the initial 'idiot' screen where you have to press OK to get to the main screen?

I would love it if you could, and I'm sure others would as well!

I just got a 765T, I use to use my 650.
The 650 splash screen upon boot up was full screen.
The 765 is not.
How do I make the splash screen full screen on boot up?

The ones that came with the unit aren't even full screen. Those sizes are 480X232 and the one i'm using is 480x272 and that's not even full screen.

Is it possible to have it full screen on boot?
