I downloaded the Garmin POI installer today and I also downloaded the Places to Visit in the US file from here and installed it. Now when I go to Points of Interest menu, all the menu options are gone. The only icon there is one that lets you spell what you are looking for.
BTW I also downloaded and installed a software update for my Garmin nuvi 500 today. I don't know if that had anything to do with the problem.
Anybody got any suggestions?

Update for anyone
Update for anyone interested. Garmin responded to my inquiry as follows:
If the sub-catorgies do not display on the points of interest page you will need to verify the mapping software is enabled:
Select Tools
Select Settings
Select Map
Select the Map Info button
Ensure that a check mark appears in the box next to mapping software
Putting a check mark in the box solved the problem
