check amazon.com to compare nuvi models
I did a quick search on the nuvi 255w and found that amazon.com shows a chart that list several models and features.
It appears the 255w doesn't offer an FM Transmitter (to listen to the nuvi on your radio) and Multi-point routing (Allows you to enter multiple points and the nuvi will make an efficient route for your trip. IE Delivery driver). It also appears that the 255w doesn't offer an mp3 player or bluetooth.
For some reason the garmin.com web page will not show the nuvi 780 model in the compare list.
Happy hunting.... I would check amazon.com for a list of features and to compare prices between models.
.
The 255w also does *not* have the integrated/powered mount that the 7x0 series does. This mount allows you to simply snap the unit into/out of the mount with no cables to deal with. The power cable is plugged into the side of the mount and all electrical connections to the GPS are made via a 25-pin interface connector at the bottom of the GPS.
This is a big deal for alot of people who are used to this type of mounting system as "upgrading" to even the newer 1xxx series units (the 1690 being the exception) lose this type of mount and use the cheaper un-powered mount where you have to plug/un plug the USB power cord into the GPS every time you want to remove the unit from the mount.

That's because
For some reason the garmin.com web page will not show the nuvi 780 model in the compare list.
The 780 isn't listed on the Garmin webpage for comparison because it is a DISCONTINUED model. All discontinued models are listed together at:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=164.
Non-discontinued models are listed at:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134
Unfortunately you can't compare from one webpage to another. What I have done is do a copy and paste of the SPEC sheets into Excel and compared them that way. Not pretty but workable. There may well be other ways of doing the compare that I didn't think of.
Nuvi 350, 760, 1695LM, 3790LMT, 2460LMT, 3597LMTHD, DriveLuxe 50LMTHD, DriveSmart 61, Garmin Drive 52, Garmin Backup Camera 40 and TomTom XXL540s.
Firefox Tabs

Two tabs in Firefox would do that trick nicely!

Does not show cross streets
The xx5 series are reported to not show upcoming cross streets where the 780 does.
That and the multipoint routes clinch the deal for me...I never want a unit that does not show in the green box the upcoming cross street.
