Garmin talk

Late last week I downloaded my lifetime maps upgrade and also the software upgrade to 4.9. No problem with download on either. However, a couple of days after I was in my car and wanted to make a phone call. As usual I tapped the phone icon to bring up the phone book with the numbers from my phone (the Bluetooth is working correctly). The phone book did not appear.

My nuvi 660's speaker decided to imitate tissue paper wrapped over a hair comb and is difficult to understand. My wife and kids bought the 3790LMT for Father's Day (although my wife has used it every day in her exhausting commute).

Yesterday Garmin announced that they are buying Navigon and run it as an independent division. Navigon is a private company, son only one set of stockholder approvals is needed. Probably won't take much in terms of regulatory approval.

I have read the threads on the Phantom Alert service and was wondering if people are happy with the service? If you use a Garmin then how are the updates handled? Do you need to connect to their website regularly or would it be better to have this on a smartphone? If it is a user driven database then who is going to input a movable speedtrap?

Hi Everybody:

Just got back from a trip to Oregon, had set up my Garmin 650 for rest stop alerts at 5280 feet using the manual entry for the POI Loader. Well it only worked when you were in the rest area parking lot! It used to work exactly at the 1 mile mark. I have the sound of the toliet flushing, I changed from the sound "rest stop ahead". Any ideas?

If you have one of these, look in the .system\SQLite for me please. See if you have a file named local_poi.db, then check what the modification date on it is. Mine says 12/31/2018. Looks to me like its a data base file, so deleting it might not be the right thing to do.

I have a 885t that I bought used from Amazon late last year. I really like the voice control. I got my free 3 month trial of MSN which really lasted closer to 6 months but I let it run out. I was wondering if they dropped the price again so I went to the MSN Direct website and discovered they made it free through the end of the service.

I think I read about somone having this same issue a while back, but I can't find it now. About 4 months ago I turned off all traffic alerts and notifications on my 765. I have the MSN receiver and still use the weather and othr features, at least till the end of the year. I wanted to re-enable the traffic alerts and now can not figure out how to do that.

I have a 7200 which I use in the Truck vehicle routing. Since the last update my routes are nuts. I always check them with a truckers atlas. More than several of the road it has directly me to turn onto are small residential roads. After several years of use this is the first time I can say consistently the proposed routing is off. Has anyone else noticed this.?

Hot outside, 90+ degrees and the MSN weather radar has been showing snow for precip (blue) instead of rain. Been doing that since Winter, never changed to rain (shades of green and red). Is it like this in every city? Everything else via the MSN receiver works (stocks, forecast, gas prices, etc).

A list of hotels came up, and the GPS completely locked up. Had to pull the plug and reboot it. So this is what Garmin has been up to in R&D over the last 3 years since I got the 660? LOL

I remember when the 660 was brand-new, it locked up for seemingly no reason either. It's probably just where I live I guess.

When downloading poi's from POI Factory to load on my Nuvi 1490T, which type of file should I use? Which one is better? Or does it really matter?

While in a route, is there a way to change the color of the highlighted route to a different color than the standard color of purple?

Quite often the detour route is a poor option.

Had my computer worked on, and now my "POI Verifier" does not work. I purchased it from The "Retired Techninian" and was given a registration number which I no longer have. Is it that important that I use it, or can I still "load" POI's without it...HELP!

Tis is a 1490 using software version 5.20.
When I create a route on Mapsource (latest version) and then import it to the unit some waypoints I have created do not draw correctly. Anybody having similar issues?

Anybody knows where can I find software version 5.10 for my 1490. I have tried the addresses provided in some previous posts but it just takes me to a buy map software page!

just wondering if i got the newest updated mapping, would it still have the truck setting feature. my newer nuvi doesn't have it, and i don't want to keep buying units
