Map will be out tomorrow - no worries!

Enjoy!

Map update

It probably doesn't fix what you think is wrong.

Maybe....

Going on vacation soon, would be nice to have the new map.

Larry

re: Maybe

would be nice to have it if it fixes things that are either wrong or missing. Brings the old adage about be careful what you wish for to mind. Don't know if I'd want to upgrade right before a vacation.

This week..

I guess map will be released in next couple of days.. I am gonna say May 29.. but hey, I have been wrong in past.. razz

.

I have inside info that the map update will be released precisely when it's ready...

Garmin, Release 2014.10 Already

Wow, the suspense is killing me. Too bad it wasn't released before the holiday for those travelling who need updated maps. I'm hoping this week is it! They seem to be taking longer between updates. I wish they had a set schedule like March 31st, June 30th, etc.

.

I will sit back and wait for page 9 and 10 and 11

IMO, that's the worst time to perform a map update. If there's any kind of glitch with the update (yes, it can happen), you're stuck scrambling to correct it before leaving...or stuck purchasing a new GPS for your trip.

Just how much change do you expect from an update?

Well said. Good point - I suppose not right before but at least in advance of the unofficial start of the summer season, vacations, and travel. smile

It's about the POIs

For me, it's more about the POIs. Major routes and interstates don't typically change drastically in just a few months' time (since the last update) but with millions of POIs, it would be nice not to find out that the Einstein Bagels or Subway closed down there 3 years ago.

IMHO

Melaqueman wrote:

IMHO, there will are probably hundreds, possibly thousands, of changes in any one map update. Whether you see any one of them is another question.

TomTom used to have a facility (may still have) where users could input changes, additions, and alterations to TomTom maps and other users could then update their maps to reflect these submitted changes on an almost daily basis. The user could decide whether they wanted to accept all reported alterations or only those ones that had been verified by TomTom. I was amazed at how many changes were offered using this system.

Since Garmin doesn't have a user input facility like that we can only assume that their map updates would incorporate, in total, just as many map changes/additions on a quarterly basis as TomTom made available daily.

TomTom had a TV spot that showed the mayor cutting the ribbon to a new bridge. A motorist was shown navigating over the bridge, even as the ribbon was fluttering to the pavement.

Not much change - it never has been...and what changes are made, it's almost always many years past due when it does come out.

But we all still get REALLY EXCITED in hopes things are different.

Highway missing...

I'm just hoping the new map includes the huge section of highway that I sometimes travel for work. The highway was relocated so I end up traveling through a long stretch where I have to cancel my route or else listen to a constant nag about driving to the highlighted route. The highlighted route isn't really there anymore.

I don't expect the new maps to stop wanting me to turn left onto the freeway at an intersection that has a concrete barrier preventing me from following the directions. I know better than to do that and go a different route. (I've been too lazy to submit a change request.) I would like the re-routed highway to be on the map, though.

To update or not to update

Obviously there are issues with the 2014.10 update. My current version is 2010.1 so maybe I should play it safe and buy the current 2013.40 given I head to the US in 30 days time and my routes cover some 5,500 miles of your great country.

What do you guys think ?

Wow and a long way down page 8

We sure do have a lot of entries

8 page worth of comotion

If anyone could explain it..what is the big deal about this update. It is really noticeable? A couple of new roads? New streets? Whoa... This is what the excitement all about? Most of us would never would know or could point out the difference in the update between the new and the old mapping.

Heading for Page 9

Turn left at the next sign post and head straight towards Page 9

New map

Got the new map downloaded thanks for updates

After all this Commotion

Now the question is after all this hub hub and commotion, how many people will actually update their maps?

Even with lifetime map updates, I don't always use every single one of them. Often I go every other or even every three updates.
