Has been uploaded onto their servers meaning it should be released for download within the next 2 weeks or so.

Definitely prefer mapupdater

Definitely prefer mapupdater. It's more intuitive and actually does what you ask it to. It finds the device, shows the options and downloads the map/updates selected.

So far from my experience, Garmin express has been a heavy exercise in frustration and time wasting.

Yet when you call Garmin they're saying use Garmin express.... go figure. Must be something to do with my computer's configuation.

if Garmin express is good then why does it try to update me to the map I already have installed, at least map updater says I already have the latest maps installed I don't trust Garmin express I think its still to buggy.

Last Year

Looking at my maps on Garmin web site it looked like last years 2013.10 came out June 25.
Maybe that will be when this one comes out?

Edit: looking again I think that is the date I unlocked mine. Can't tell how to read it.

I think you have the true answer to the release of this version.

In order to get their map numbering designations to make some logical sense, they are holding this release until 2014 so the number matches the year and we can figure out when the darn thing is was released.

Hope lane guidance will get more accurate

I missed a turn again because lane guidance said go left and map showed go right. I glanced at the lane guidance and committed to a lane then the voice was saying "turn right".

Maybe this update will fix that but I won't hold my breath.

2013.10 came last year on May 9..

Garmin maps release date

This year Garmin might not release it until Jan 09 2014.

Some software updates for the units mention a problem with being unable to authenticate the map update. My guess is the map package changed enough that it broke all the existing units and now a fix has to be found. What drove the change is anyone's guess, but it was probably an attempt to stop piracy.

2014.10

Both European and North America 2014.10 updates are available on SD card from resellers now. Delay must have to do with problem with servers.
