I'd wait a few more days. Maybe.

Obviously there are issues with the 2014.10 update. My current version is 2010.1 so maybe I should play it safe and buy the current 2013.40 given I head to the US in 30 days time and my routes cover some 5,500 miles of your great country.

What do you guys think ?

If I were you, I'd wait another week or so to see if the new maps come out. If they do, you could still wait a couple more weeks after that for feedback from all of us that jump at new maps. If the feedback is positive, you'd install them. If the feedback is not so good, you could install 2013.40.
Now here's why I said "Maybe" in the subject line. I'm not sure that once Garmin officially releases a new map that you can still download an older map. If 2014.10 turns out to be a stinker, will you still be able to download 2013.40? Don't know.

Watched Pot Never Boils

The length of this reminds me of the saying that a watched pot never boils.

So maybe instead of checking every day for the new update, we check weekly? or monthly?

Sorry!

Tried to login to MyGarmin and its being worked on.

Sorry, our site is temporarily down for maintenance.
Please check back soon.

My FlyGarmin access still works.

I sent in a missing active rail crossing in my town two years ago (to both Garmin and Navteq) and it still hasn't been added to the map. It would probably take them less than five minutes to confirm with Google street view.

Have you looked at Navteq's maps on their site? The maps on your Garmin are at least a year or more old by the time they get to you because the heavy modifications that have to be made in order to get them to fit.

Well, if you really can't wait to install a map update, go ahead and imagine you are not on the current version, then re-install it...no more waiting! wink

Hi Box Car. The rail crossing still does not show on the current Navteq map. (on their website) They -were- a little quicker adding the POLICE info for my town to the POI's, but it still took THREE map updates to get this critical info corrected and added. I couldn't believe it when I discovered it was missing as it seems pretty important. (I think so anyway! rolleyes)

Doesn't seem that long since the last one. My how time flies when you're having fun.

I believe 2013.40 was eventually made available for downloading on 2-21-2013.

So, you are right - it has not been that long since the last one...just a little over 2 months.

Did you use a Mayan calendar to base your calculation of 2 months? grin

Actually it's a bit more than 14 weeks (3 months & 2 weeks).

It appears there are problems with the map as there was with City Navigator Europe 2013.40. People downloaded that map only to later been pulled from their servers and only made 2013.30 available again.
Eventually they released 2013.41 having corrected the issues. City Navigator Europe 2014.10 also has not been released yet. Perhaps Garmin wants to make sure to get it right the first time before releasing the CNNA 2014.10 to avoid angry customers.

I am in no hurry to download, when I do, I will be backing up my 2013.40 map and all the related files that come with it. This way if there is a problem I don't have to download 2013.40 again. I'll simply copy the files back at a much faster rate.

I have a suspicion that the delay may have something to do with Garmin Express. I fired it up today and got the message that a map update for my unit was available: 2013.40, and it started the familiar process of questions/disclaimers to download the map.

Only problem here is that 2013.40 is what is currently installed on my 2595, so it would have gone through the entire server connect and download process for nothing. I believe that previously GE checked for the map version you had and if it was the latest version, it advised this and that was that. Bottom line is: it's broken.

Not Garmin Express Issue

At least not for me ...

I tried to update using Garmin Express and it didn't show any map updates (have 2013.40).

I was surprised since I hadn't updated the maps since March, so I checked with MyDashboard and it also said the maps were up to date.

I'm not sure why GE tends to work well for some users (me) and not others (williston).

GE problem here too

I have started to get an unable to connect to servers. I have removed GE off my machine. Thanks to POI Factory I will get notified quickly of map update availability.
