MyGarmin

I went on myGarmin and it's there.

I'll wait a few days though to see that all is well before downloading and installing this update.

The update

The update is available via Garmin Express and Garmin's MapUpdater software as well.

Downloading now

I will wait too.

Besides, we have storms in the area tonight. Not sure what might happen if power goes off during map download.

I want to try this one totally with GE. But I think I too will wait to see if everything is complete before I try.

Great news

This is great. I'm updating my 750 as we speak with GarminMapUpdater and updating both the 750 and installing the map to the computer...

I took a look at where I think the large jcv file will be (for my nuvi 855) and don't see it yet. When someone finds the large JCV, hopefully straight from Garmin like last time, please start a thread with a link to it.

Happy updates everyone.

Right after I installed 2013.40

Due to being really busy, I never bothered updating to 2013.40. Just now I finally did, and guess what. As soon as it finished installing, GE said 2014.10 is available. Figures!

Update complete

I just updated my 2450 with Garmin Express and had no issues. Based on free space, it took up an extra 33MB of space.

my.garmin only offered the option of Garmin Express for 2014.10. When I cancelled that, it said "Map Install Failed" and only 2013.40 showed up.

Now downloading with a copy of MapUpdater 3.2.2 that I had previously saved...

1000Kb/s and it says 2 hrs. Looks wrong. 10% in ten minutes. This Map might be quite a bit larger than 2013.40.

Full JCV

Just downloaded it and installed in GPS and Computer in 70 min,

Pretty quick this time only 70 minutes from starting the MapUpdater software to completely installed in both my 3790LMT and my desktop computer.

The road I live on is about 2 years old and it now shows for the first time on the new map update.

Here are the comparison file sizes for the 3790:

2013.40

gmapprom - 1926248KB
gmap3d - 198096KB
gmapdem - 1198560KB
JCV - 458794KB

2014.10

gmapprom - 1957248KB - larger
gmap3d - 203156KB - larger
gmapdem - 1198560KB - no change
JCV - 453916KB - smaller

These numbers also hold for the 3597 with the exception of the gmapdem file which is now only 608976KB, down from the 1198560KB noted above. Very strange!?

The gmapdem was not updated on my 3590. It has always bin at 608976KB. Same size on my 3790 also.

What is really weird here, is that the last time I updated both my units with 2013.40 using Garmin Express
it only downloaded the map once and I was able to update them both with the same files on my system. Its not doing that this time. It's using about 75% of the 3590 files on my system and it's downloading the rest.

2014.10 downloaded in 70 minutes

Pretty quick, no problems encountered downloaded to my computer and 2595 using MapUpdater.

Nüvi 2595LMT

I used

I used MapUpdater v.3.2.2 to update my 3790. Normally if I tell this program to retain the map files on my computer as I have additional devices to update, that's what happens. This time it updated the 3790 and when I went to update the 3597 it downloaded about 80% of the files again. I can see one reason why it had to download some additional data as the DEM files on the 2 devices are different sizes but 80% is really strange.

Another thing I just noticed. Normally if my maps are up to date and I run Mapupdater it simple reports that the maps are current and asks if I'd like to install them again. After updating to 2014.10 on the 3790, when I run MapUpdater again it says that updates are available for PURCHASE. Since I have lifetime maps this ain't right. surprised

MapUpdater v.3.2.2 behaves the same way with my 2595LMT. Good catch! I hope MapUpdater doesn't become the MapSource of updaters... rolleyes

no good

Tried to update my 3597 apparently the garmin servers have crashed. When I try to access my garmin it says it is down for maintenance.

How does the map on the computer get updated?

I used Garmin express to update my 750 and the new map shows up.

However it does not show up in Basecamp or Mapsource.

I see a large new folder: C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Core Update Service

Problems here as well

I ran the map updater and it said I could purchase maps from Garmin's site. I have lifetime maps on this unit.

Server overload...

After about 8:00pm (Pacific), apparently Garmin's map servers/myGarmin servers are overloaded. I got in well before 8pm but had to cancel the download. When I tried again a bit after 8pm, the maintenance message shows when accessing myGarmin.com and running one of the map updater apps returns an error. Simply too many people downloading multi-gigabyte files.

Thanks for the heads up

Installed using the MapUpdater; didn't encounter any problems.

.

Got an error on DL. Had to go to Garmin.com to get the new map serial number. Entered it and away we went...

Did the old 775 first. Have to wait for the 3790 til this weekend.

They have two options: allow unlimited number of connections and very slow downloads or limit number connections and give fast transfers. Personally I'm for second option. Even if I can't download map right away I will do it in day or two. Download will take one or two hours instead two days.

No issues here

As a new 3597 user, I ran Garmin Express last night around 10pm CDT (while watching an exciting Blackhawks game) and it downloaded/upgraded my map in about 45 minutes for me, no problems. Beginners luck I guess!

Use GarminMapUpdater

BobHy wrote:

However it does not show up in Basecamp or Mapsource.

I see a large new folder: C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Core Update Service

For this update, go back and use GarminMapUpdater, then look for the Install Options button and select "Install to Computer Only."

For future updates, use GarminUpdater and click Install Options, then choose "Install to device and computer."

Garmin Map Updater (PC and Mac):

https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={60f574f0-602d-11e2-f3fb-000000000000}

Do not use Garmin Express, at least as it currently exists if you want maps to be useable in Mapsource.

PS--I assume you have a SD card in the nuvi 750 and were able to install all of North America to your 750. If you aren't using a SD card for the map and are installing the map to your nuvi's internal storage, you have less than all of North America, right?

Yes,

Mattb wrote:

Yes, I noted that earlier but in my case it was a "redownload". So it's happening on orginal downloads as well. I just checked this morning and it's still showing as "purchase maps" for a device with a lifetime map subscription.

Sure hope this doesn't end up being Garmin's attempt to force us into using Garmin Express when MapUpdater is really the only facility that works 100% of the time. Although there is a workaround by getting the product key from your myGarmin.com account. Then you can get past the "purchase" screen and download the update.

You can download your maps as many times as you want (or can stand the time requirements). Garmin releases map updates up to 4 times per year.
