Upgrading Gramin 255W to Garmin 2555LMT question

I am upgrading my old Garmin 255W to a Garmin 2555LMT. Will my old Micro SD card containing all my extra POI files fit into the new 2555LMT and work?
Hopefully I will not have to manually download my POI files onto a new Micro SD card.
Any comments--
guy

BTW--Best Buy is selling the Garmin 2555LMT this week for $129.99-a savings of $50

Don't think so

WOW - a question I'm able to answer. I had a Nuvi 255 (I think) and it took an SD csrd (roughly the size of a Chicklet), not a micro. Last year I upgraded to a 2595 and it uses a micro-SD card (roughly the size of the nail on your pinky). So the answer is no. The good news is the micro-SD cards are fairly inexpenseive so a good excuse to get more memory.

Good luck and enjoy your new Garmin!

Try an adapter

Also, an adapter which is the size of the sd card (not micro-sd card) might be what you need. Hope that works.

SD Card

As Garmin Gal indicated your Nuvi 255 uses a standard SD card, it will not fit your new 2555LMT.
All the newer Nuvi models now come with the micro SD cards. both your Nuvis will recognize a SDHC card (the HC is high capacity.

As Makinja suggested, why not buy a Micro SD card with the standard adapter. This way you can use one SD cards in both your units and other electronics.
You still will need to copy your existing POI's on the standard card to the new micro SD card. I use this method on my 2460 that uses a micro card, then I place it in the adapter for my old Nuvi 660 I use as a backup.

If you don't intend to use the 255 any longer, you can simply buy a micro SD card (suggest 8GB).
Copy the POI files from the 255's SD card to your PC, then connect your 2555LMT to your PC and copy the files to the micro SC card inserted in that unit.
You may need to create a Garmin\POI folder on the card.

I would buy a Sandisk brand, I find them very reliable. Below is a an Ebay link for a Sandisk 8GB class 4 micro card with adapter. It's selling for $ 7.48 with free shipping. Or you can do a google search for the micro SD card.

As suggested I have transferred my SD card contents to my PC (using a Mac)-it consists of two folders. A gpx folder and a POI folder.
Do I transferr both files into the new micro SC card in the 2555LMT ??
Thanks -- guy

I Think Maybe Yes

Copy Files from one SD Card to Computer THEN copy from Computer to New Device. Then Install Garmin Express, it works well IF you follow the Instructions. IF you don'tr follow the Instrutions for the Garmin Express, you will be one of the Complainers

Your statement of following instructions is not 100% accurate. We have followed instructions and it is a hit or miss if Garmin express will work. I personnally have tried on 3 different computers and all have given me trouble. 2 are XP (fully patched) and 1 is Win 7 (fully patched). All varying degrees of of ram and processor speed. I will not try it again till there are better reports of its suggest.
