Trip to New Jersey

Used my Garmin C 340 on a recent trip to New Jersey

Why did I believe my Nuvi 350?

How about this.

Weird occurrence in California

Last week we were driving on Interstate 40 across the desert toward Lake Havasu City, AZ. The GPS (a Magellan Roadmater 2200T) stopped counting down the miles at about 73 miles before the next turn on Arizona 95. For about 5 miles it said 73 to the maneuver. A reset started it off working again. It was weird.

I thought it was a fluke and dismissed it.

On the way back, at about the same place it did it again,

Trip from Twin Cities (MN) to Rapid City (SD)/Black Hills area/Devils Tower, etc.

This week my wife, two sons, and I traveled from the Twin Cites of Minnesota to Mount Rushmore, staying in Rapid City (SD) and visited Devils Tower (WY) and other points along the way. I had my Garmin StreetPilot 2730 along for the trip. I found a number of the POI files that I had downloaded from here to be very helpful for the trip.

GPS UNIT Noticed While Traveling

I just wanted to start a topic on GPS units noticed while traveling. You know that all of us do it...kind of glance to the next car over just to see if they even have a GPS unit in their car. And of course if they don't you sort of feel this temporary empowerment over them regardless to what vehicle they are in. If they have a GPS you feel that you have a common ground with them.

Around the USA with my nuvi

I just got back from an 18-day, 6000-mile journey with my 15 year-old daughter. We went from Philadelphia to Tucson to Denver then back to Philadelphia. The nuvi was a great help in many ways. I bought it the last week of June but it came with the old maps. I was disappointed the new maps were not available in time for the trip but we only had few minor problems with the old maps.

Blow Out

While traveling through western Kansas from Colorado Springs to South Carolina on I-70 I had a tire blow and all I had was a donut spare. After changing the tire I requested my Nuvi 660 to guide me to the nearest Walmart Super Center using the POI I downloaded from POI Factory.

Creation Museum near Cincinnati

A few days ago, my lady and I took off for the Creation Museum located near Cincinnati,OH.
Of course, the trusty Garmin 350 led us the way, including a stop at a
White Castle(see my White Castle USA file). The route was along US 50 in
central/southen Indiana with a slight bypass using highway 450.This was done using the

59 seconds equals 23 hours!

I was traveling in Canada this past week, and was trusting my Nuvi for all of my route finding. When I had to go a half hour between two small towns, for some reason Nuvi said it was going to take 23 1/2 hours. When I looked at the travel directions it had me drive a couple hundred of miles out of my way, hop several ferries, drive up to Alaska and then come back down by yet another ferry.

Cruise Ship

Does anyone know if they will let you bring a GPS on a cruise ship to be used when you arrive at a port of call?

Instructions needed (story)

I was sick in bed yesterday and my family is here from out of town. Since I couldn't go show them around, I gave them my GPS so they could get around. I thought they would love it, because it's straightforward and easy to use. Anyways, I was wrong. They thought it was useless because it wouldn't connect and gave bad directions. I asked, did you flip the antannae up? Huh??

GPS on Airplane (w/ Nuvi 680)

I took my Nuvi 680 on the airplane and was surprised that I got reception without sitting next to a window. It was cool to zoom in and see how fast we were traveling over the land. Even with the second or so lag, it was still impressive.

Bell Witch Cave

Saturday June 30 my lady and I looked up "Tourist Guide for TN" for something that was close by(one day trip we live north of Evansville,IN) and found Bell Witch Cave and decided that was the place to go.I told Garmin 350 to show me the way. And it did. Followed the route to Adams,Tenn with no problems.Sorry I did not see the witch.

Symphony in the Flint Hills

On the weekend of June 16th my lady and I traveled to Eskridge,KS, to attend the 2nd annual "Symphony in the Flint Hills" concert. Of course I used the gps to find the motel in Topeka and to drive to the concert site, which is outdoors. The first concert site was last year at Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve 100 miles southwest of Kansas City.

Tahoe Fires

This past weekend, I was staying at a friends cabin in Tahoe. We went boating down the truckee river so I left my GPS at the cabin since I didn't want to get it wet or leave it in the car. While we were boating, we saw 6-7 firetrucks go by. Little did we know the city of Myers (where we were staying) was just miles from the Angora fire.

Drivnig in Alaska and the Yukon

I had just gotten a HP iPAQ rx5915 and took it with me on a trip to Alaska about two weeks ago. We decided to rent a car in Skagway and drive up to Whitehorse on a day trip.

Touring Europe

In planning my upcoming trip to Europe, I needed a GPS. Renting was too expensive so I sold my old clunky (2 pound) Lowrance iWay500c and bought a nuvi 670. IT WAS FREAKING AWESOME! In reality it turned out to be a marriage saver because my wife is completely useless as a navigator.

Boston Blues

Hi,
I am a frequent traveler to many US cities and I have been very happy with my StreetPilot i5 until I arrived in Boston last night.

Most of my travel has been in open sub-urban areas where my GPS performed like a champion!

Then there was Boston!
Several routes were either blocked or were converted to one way streets which the GPS map did not recognize.

U turn right into a military base in Hawaii

During a recent vacation in Hawaii, I left the HNL airport and attempted to get onto the freeway to my hotel in Waimea. It took over 5 min for the satillites to find my location. Once we had our location, we were directed to the freeway from the airport. If you've ever driven in Hawaii, you know the freeways have multiple names and can be difficult to identify.
