Left on red OK?
In Texas as well as 36 other states it is ok to turn left on red under the following circumstances.
I don't see many people doing it here but wish they would.

Camera predicts red light runner
This would be interesting technology if it could work as advertised.
"In addition to photographing those who run red lights and violate the speed limit, Hargadine said this particular camera technology can predict when a vehicle will run through an intersection and prevent the opposing signals from turning green. That technology could cut down on crashes and property damage and save lives"

Police ticketing fewer drivers
This was in the Chicago Tribune today.

While I was reading it, I couldn't help but think that the reason police are writing fewer tickets, is because of the explosion of ATEs in the Chicagoland area.

Bastrop gets red light cameras
BASTROP, Texas -- Drivers in Bastrop will soon join those in Austin and Round Rock as they watch out for red light cameras.
The city began a 30 day warning period less than a week ago. Officials are sending notices and pictures to red light runners but no fine.
The cameras are set up at two busy intersections: State Highway 95 and Jackson Street as well as Tahitian Drive and Highway 71.

Had time to kill yesterday (watched cameras for 15 min)
I was early to an office XMAS party, so since the venue was at a red light intersection, I decided to walk to the corner and observe.
The cams were looking at only 2/4 directions of the intersection, westbound, and northbound.
The east/west is a state highway, heavily, heavily traveled and lots of vehicles. The north/south is more of a local road, not that much traffic.
Washington: Judge Slaps Attempt to Block Anti-Camera Vote
The Snohomish County Superior Court on Thursday found Monroe, Washington liable for a fine of up to $10,000 for denying photo enforcement opponents access to the ballot. Although two-thirds of voters in the city voted against the use of red light cameras and speed cameras in November, they were only allowed to consider a measure crafted by Mayor Robert Zimmerman.
