The City of Toledo (OH) will install up to 44 additional speed/red light cameras (11 intersections) just to fund a recreation program. I love the phrase "this year AND BEYOND."
At least they are honest and not throwing out the 'safety of the citizens' line of hooey.
Here's the story from the Toledo Blade newspaper 01/24/12:
"The Bell administration plans to use fines from red light cameras to fund recreation programs in the city through the end of the year and beyond.
Finance Director Patrick McLean told Toledo City Council members Tuesday that the city proposes to install the additional cameras at 11 intersections in the city by May. The cameras would generate around $320,000 this year, enough to plug the shortfall in the 2012 budget, he said. They would also generate recreation program revenue into the future, he indicated."

The recreation program that he is talking about pays for their country club fees.
