Newer Nuvi's

Do the newer Nuvi's (ie 50LM) have trouble playing sound alerts?

I guess they took the mp3 playing feature out of the new Nuvi's to bring down the price?

Here's a start

last Garmin they produced to support MP3 was the 295W

The last Garmin they produced that supported MP3 was the 295W.

I think they no longer support MP3 because people are pretty much using their smartphones, plug in thumb drives and Ipods now for playing them. They also have to pay a royalty to include that feature.

does anyone know what other things they have "cut out" or changed to make them so much less expensive. My 350 was almost 300 bucks in its day. It also seems to work faster a tad better.

How about 40LM? same?

This is the main reason I do not buy low end electronics, or low end anything truth be known. In many cases, you get what you pay for. Caveat Emptor.

That is the trend on many products nowadays, not just Nuvis.
