Data loss when loading maps - eTrex Legend

I to got the map source CD free after complaining to Garmin that they shouldn't charge after you purchased a GPS. Now I would like to generate a map and upload it but understand that I will loose the Marine Point Basemap that is part of the original software on my etrex legend but not if I just add waypoints.
I contacted Garmin and their response after asking twice was "That's corrrect when you download waypoint you will not loose that POI, but you will loose it if you add mapping. After you have added the maps simply run that file and the computer should automaticly send the Marin POI to the unit." (Misspellings are theirs) I don't understand their answer because I don't have the Marine Point Basemap as a separate file to upload. When I connect the GPS to the computer it will download my current waypoints but it doesn't show the Marine Point Basemap. I don't know that I will ever use it but I hate to loose the data just in case. Someone on this site said you could download it from Garmin but I couldn't find it.
Can anyone offer any help on this?

go to garmin site , support, downloads for units and read carefully, its there but hard to spot.

Thanks for the URL. I had looked on the Garmin site but didn't get to the right place. I don't know how I missed it. I assume if I load the marine database at the same time as a new map it will retain both.
