c530

You can use POI Loader to transfer POI files to c530 or SD card. This model works either way.

Loading POI to c530

Not sure if this is your question, but the POI's are located under Where to>Extras>Poi Locations.

the c530 works with internal

the c530 works with internal and sd card poi. i found that if u load the speed and red light poi internal and the waypoint poi on the sd card the c530 works best

RE: C530 works with internal

Hi Robert -
just when I thought I had figured out that my alerts were finally working because I had grudgingly agreed to let the unit install them internally - along you come and blow my thinking right out of the water! Seriously, I couldn't make alerts work, but when I stopped relying on them while they were only on the SD card they finally started working. My testing was limited, however, so apparently I arrived at my conclusion a bit prematurely? And I do have a C530, had some functioning alerts right at 2 miles (10560 ft?) until they drove me crazy and I disabled them all. And I have no red light alerts loaded at all, just other POI's.

Have you used the POI Loader

Have you used the POI Loader to load your POI's onto the SD card?
.

Make sure you are selecting

Make sure you are selecting the drive letter that your SD card is using, you should have two additional drive letters when you connect your gps to your PC. one is for your gps and the other is for your SD card.

First, organize the poi you want loaded.
Make a dedicated folder somewhere, give it a name, For this example we'll call it Load Poi
Inside that folder, place the individual poi files you want to load, for example redlight.csv and bestbuy.csv
Connect your 530 to the computer.{Be patient!)
Start the POI Loader, {Be patient!)
You'll see the welcome screen, click next
The next screen you will select the device. This is the location you want to load your poi to. You should see "Removable Disk" and a drive letter in ()
Your other choice will probably look like "GARMIN (with a drive letter in the ()
Select the location you want the poi to be loaded. The SD card or the Garmin.
click next
Then you have the option to Install or Remove poi's
Make your choice then
click next
Browse and find the path to your folder "Load Poi" {or whatever you end up naming it}
You can select the manual or express mode.
From there on out it's pretty self explanitory. Click next, in a couple of seconds you will either get an error message or a Congratulations you have successfully loaded ## poi's

Hope this helps and didn't get you more confused

Install to internal memory, or continue to press NO

They are the only two options at this point.

callous's

That's it, you get a good callous built up on the right index finger. That's what I have anyway.

re: Install to Internal Memory

When I first got my c530, I asked the same question. Over time, it just became part of the routine: First answer no, then enter password, then reply to warning, then start working. Actually, it is just one extra click.

yes - but it's not obvious...

It turns out that if you answer the question with "YES", it takes you to another screen, which says:-

"Install this data?"

Custom POI's
(filespec of the .GPI file it found)

[ ] Don't ask me again.

SKIP      INSTALL

-------------------------------

So click in the [ ] Don't ask me box and then hit "SKIP".
It won't ask you again, until the time-stamp on the SD card file changes.

If you have more than one .GPI file on the card it will iterate through each one. POI Loader only ever produces POI.GPI (well unless you've patched it wink ), but the C5xx will treat all files with a .GPI extension in exactly the same way. So say you have a particular set of POIs that you don't use often- you can load them, then rename the resulting POI.GPI to 'SOMETHING.GPI', and then in future make this whole set appear or disappear, simply by copying this file. Whether this is useful or not, depends entirely on what you use your POI's for.
In Europe, Garmin supply a 'Safety Camera database' in its own .GPI file.

That's great.....prevent all of those extra steps. I never would have figured that option out. That's why we keep coming to this site.

Just got a C530 and loaded 2

Just got a C530 and loaded 2 POI files just now. Very easy and right in the Extra's.

Had a TomTom GO510 that just stopped working and was having all kinds of problems loading POIs into it. Took it back and I'm now very happy with the C530.

I don't get this option on the Zumo. Anyone figure it out for that device?

I haven't. For now, I just

I haven't. For now, I just load them directly to the Zumo so I can avoid that prompt. I use my SD card for mp3 and pictures.

How big SD card?

I want to do the TTS mod to my c530 and I'm guessing after I following the instructions for deleting unnecessary voice files, that I may not have enough room to install POI's internally and that I'll indeed need to get an SD card. If so, how big are the cards folks are buying. I'm thinking 1 gig should suffice?

sure

It really depends on your preferences. Are you the type that downloads every poi file available and installs it just because? Will you have a custom bmp for each and every poi/file as well?
Or, are you a bit more selective. If you don't drink wine or could care less about a vineyard or winery you wouldn't download it, right?

But, a 1gb card will hold plenty of poi's. For example, the 1gb card I'm using right now has almost 850mb of mp3's and 2.1mb of custom poi's (several thousand) and bmp's and I still have over 130mb left.
Take away the mp3's and you can see there is plenty of room for poi's.
SD cards are always on sale somewhere. I picked up a 2gb card at Fry's for $17 and a three pack of 1gb from Best Buy for around $40. You could probably do much better online.

Yeah, I have a 2GB SD card

Yeah, I have a 2GB SD card that I haven't started actually using to store POIs on (for navigation). I use it to store them and then upload them to the Garmin. I won't do the SD option until I am out of memory, which hasn't happened yet.
