Just purchased a nuvi 650 and discovered this website. I downloaded WebUpdater and ran it for updates. Next, I downloaded POI Loader, but haven't figured out how to transfer the information to my nuvi. Where can I find the step by step procedures to begin downloading files? (Be easy, I only have basic computer knowledge)

I have a c340 and am trying to download some POI's into it. I downloaded the installer from garmin and loaded in to my laptop. When I plug in my GPS it tells me I plugrd it in but when I run POI loader.exe I can see the files i want to dwonload but how do I send them to the GPS unit?

I know Favourites are stored in the .gpx file, but is anything else...like recent Selections? I want to copy this file to the SD card in case the Favourites get wiped out. At least I can restore them just by hooking up to any PC/Mac while on our driving trip in Ireland. I spent a lot of time creating and saving them to the Nuvi.

This may be a dumb question but when I am driving down a street that has many intersecting streets my Nuvi displays the upcoming streets but not the street I am driving on. Many streets signs in my area only mark the intersecting street but not the main travel road. Is there a way to get the Nuvi to display the street you are currently driving on?

I'm the proud owner of a nuvi 680 (my first GPS) and the thing is awesome! I have a question about functionality:

Is there a way to download the speed limits on the road that I'm on? It would be interesting to be alerted if I'm driving about a set threshold for the speed on that road.

If this isn't possible no worries... just curious!

If you've had your Garmin for a while, go online and update your unit software. There's alot of new data that will improve your accuracy.

I just got my first GPS (Nuvi660). I apologize for these basic questions, but I cannot find answers browsing other posts or FAQ's.

1. Can I associate new icons with the "pre-loaded" POI's? For example, my local Starbucks uses a generic "diner" icon. Target shows a generic "shopping bag" icon.

Last night I was running diagnostics on my C330. At the same time I had it connected to my laptop charging. When I was done I turned it off and unplugged it, along with shutting down the laptop. A few minutes later I noticed that it said "Charging Battery" "Press the Power....etc." It was no longer plugged into anything at the time. I tried to power it up, but it will not turn on.

I think my c550 keeps all files old and new ones, because whe i get to the camrea it rings 8 times, it used to do it once

I got an SD card for Italy/Greece and used it in June in Italy. (I note that someone else posted a message on this board that they were going to Italy in June, too.) I drove from Rome to a small hamlet in a remote part of Abruzzo to visit relatives(about 3 hours' travel). It took me right there with no problem. From previous information I had from family here in the U.

When I touch the map and save the location to favorites, it also saves the altitude. I am viewing this in both mapsource and easy GPS. How is it getting the altitude info?

I loaded some custom POI's on my NUVI 680 using the POI loader. I can not seem to get them to be cleared out or deleted and some of them have been duplicated. I have used the POI loader to clear them out and I have deleted the \garmin\poi\poi.gpi file, still no luck. Currently the poi.gpi file is zero byte size. Has any one resolved this issue?

Great website! Just bought my first GPS, the Nuvi 660. I'm thinking about getting the Language Guide, since I have some friends coming to visit from Germany later this year, and when we get together, it helps to have a handy translator. I see that it comes on SD card. Does anyone know if you copy the files off the SD and onto the unit?

Does having an SD card in the nuvi affect system performance, screen refresh, calculation speed, battery life ...?

I don't know if this is already known. But it is new to me, so here are my recent findings. I was messing around on my 660 and I went to turn it off and I quickly hit the power button and quick setting came up. It was just audio settings but it was something that I knew nothing about. Regardless of what screen you are in it will activate.

Is there a way to the coordinates of a favorite or POI including home off the Nuvi 680 without connecting it to a computer?

I'm a newbie to both GPS and this forum but thought I'd pass on some information from Garmin that I just received. I want to preface this information as it comes from one of their Senior Vice Presidents and is someone I have been conversing with over the last few weeks.

What's the correct way to enter street addresses into my C530 when the address contains something like 1401 Highway 70 East? Does it want to see Route 70 or Hwy 70 or Rt 70 or what. This occurs even for long standing addresses that have been there for years.

Well, just back from a long week of camping. The 7200 did it's usual yeoman's duty.

However, on the trip home it got pretty hot in the cab. (I don't normally run the A/C until it's so hot my teeth sweat!) At the end of the trip I noticed that the screen brightness was way down. I checked the display settings and all was normal.

When I look at the POI places that I put on the GPS the distance is listed with the direction. When I search along routes the distance is given with an arrow. Is there anyway to switch between the two?
