Garmin talk

Has anyone got .mp3 files to work for alerts on the Palm Garmin Mobile XT software for a Palm cell phone Treo like the Treo 755p ?

The alert tone works as does a .bmp file. The file names are all exactly the same for the .csv .bmp and .mp3 files for input to POI Loader.

I'd seen this brought up often, so I decided to start it and see how it went.

A most interesting article on the new antenna firmware upgrade for SiRFstarIII GPS receivers and SiRFatlas and SiRFtitan multifunction SoC navigation processors Antenna upgrade. It not only talks about the upgrade, but detail how sats are acquired by SIRF. Surprising info. A must read if you are a gadget guy.

Maybe everyone else know this, but I discovered something that may help folks who where wanting a Mega file of all food places or stores in a city. This is for the StreetPilots (c330, c550 and c580) I've tested.

I have used the Red light warnings and they work like a charm. I have the Garmin 760 that I got for Christmas.

It dings and works great. Quick question. Can you add a voice prompt to it as well, such as "Red Light Camera" or something like that to the 760?

Not really a big deal, but was curious.

You know how your Garmin tells you to keep left or keep right when another freeway branches off of the freeway you are driving on? In general, this is a useful feature, and I like it.

I have all of my contacts setup in my phone with Name/Email/Phone/Address but when I try to import my address book from my phone it only has the phone number listed from a contact. Can you not add favorites from your phone book or do you have to enter all of them manually?

New to this great site and I have a few questions about my new NUVI 660. Is there a way to turn something on so it will show restaurants and other POI's while your driving? On my eTrex Vista CX you can turn declutter on and off but I don't find anything like that on the NUVI. To find anything you have to do a search. Just curious.

Looking at both I found out that the difference in operation is that 760 has a "handfree calling with bluetooth wireless".
My questions are:
A.What does it mean?
B.Is it worth paying 150US$ more to have the 760?

Ok, this is a weird one for you guys. I have all the poi's working and everything is great for months. Then, I download the latest redlight and speed camera files, put them in my POI folder on my PC, run the POI Loader and install the new POIs in my Garmin Nuvi 350, but now I get the default beeps and bongs for proximity alerts and my custom mp3 files have stopped playing.

I have the Nuvi 260 and have a few questions;

1) What is the Extra's Menu for? I know it contains my custom POI's but can anything else be stored in this directory?
2) Can the menu options be moved? (Can I move the extras to the first page or do I always have to scroll down?
3) On the map / navigate screen, can the speed be exchanged with other options?

How do I create a list of POI when all I have is the street address of the locations?

Perhaps this is a well-known glitch, but it turns out a frequently-used thoroughfare near me is always pronounced as "Beach Doctor" instead of "Beach Drive." Haven't tried it with every possible voice, but it must be a glitch in the Navteq database, n'est ce pas?

Understanding that I need to download from 6 to 5.4 software to do the tts mod, does anyone know of any important losses in the downgrade?
The two things I notcied were that it might not save to stay off unpaved roads and that it could lose destination point on long routes. (info. from Garming update info.)
Anyone know anything about this?

Using the latest version of POI Loader on Vista and latest 750 firmware the following line causes a POI Loader error.
39.040207,-119.948001,12ft 4in @ Cave Rock Tunnel
I can change the longitude and the line is OK. The coordinates are valid and display correctly when entered into Mapsource or the nuvi 750. I'm beginning to suspect a Mapsource or 750 bug.

Once I download POIs to my GPS, how can I see them? Also, If I have downloaded POI's, is there a way I can remove them from my Garmin 760?

I have just loaded new custom POI's onto my SD memory card. Is there anyway in which you can integrate the custom POI's into the pre-loaded POI's. THis would be usefull in that it would allow you to search for things near you, and all of your POI's would come up. Thanks for the help.

I've created a new POI file for myself, but how do I put in info such as address and tel #? Is this even possible? Some of the POI's I've downloaded have this and some don't.
