Garmin C330 Suction Cup Defect

The suction cup on my Streetpilot C330's windshield mount cracked after 14 months. I phoned Garmin, and they promptly sent me a new bracket that included a new suction cup. I was told that some of the suction cups were defective. If you have a similar problem, you might be eligible for a free replacement.

windshield mount

I have lost all confidence in the suction cup mount. No problems at all until last week when it fell from the windshield.Only had GPS since last Sept.Have a dash mount now for my unit.

My c330 fell off of the

My c330 fell off of the windsheild the first time I used it. It stayed for about an hour, and just fell.

Suction Cup Mount

I have a C340 which uses the same style mount. Make sure the windshield is clean and moisten the cup before you put it on. Mine stays on for about as long as I want to leave it. Before I did that, I had the occasional "fall off". I do remove mine every other week or so for variuos reasons so the mounting gets refreshed.

suction cup

I had problems with my suction cup on my l3, c320and nuvi 650 so I bought a friction mount no probs.

I second the comment by GeorgePC340!

Mine also fell off a few times before I slightly moistened the suction cup. After that, it stayed on for about a year. It would still be on the windshield, but the rubber on the suction cup cracked, and it fell off as I stated in my original post. I connected the C330 to the new mount that Garmin supplied, and I will apply the new suction cup to my windshield.

Theft Concerns

I would advise that the mount should be out of site out of mind to prevent any thefts. There has been several topics concerning this.

Last year I left the mount on my windshield and after 2 weeks of hanging there I went to remove it - I was after a razer blade to clean the rubber ring from the glass. It never would stick again. I have since used the disk and remove the whole thing except the disk when I am parked someplace.

Mine never falls off cause I

Mine never falls off cause I do the above (make sure that the cup and windshield are extremely clean.). With extreme temperature change, it can fall off as well. I have combated it by doing as stated above and take it off and put it back on (takes less then 3 seconds) about once a week.

I have also found that a very thin coat of vasaline makes my GPSr and radar detector mount always stay on.

Asianfire I done the same

Asianfire I done the same things except water and vasaline.I have a radar detector that mounts to the windshield and has been cross country many time and never came off.The Gps window mount came all the way from VA to here in Florida and all kinds of short trips and never had a problem.I felt really good about it and had no thoughts about changing mounts.Weather did not play a factor in mine coming off.I believe just one to many bumps on I10.I always removed my mount when stopping for security reasons and cleaned the windshield plus the rubber pad befor re-attaching.My neighbor with a much larger unit put a rubber pad under his to prevent any damage. If they would have designed the mount with the rubber tab on top instead of the bottom you could mount the thing low enough that if it did fall it would be less chance of damage. That would also help us out in VA with law about blocking view of windshield.I put suggestion into Garmin for the change.

The Suction Cup Mount Does What It Says It Does, It Sucks

I had the same issue with the suction cup mount that came with my nüvi. Garmin replaced it under warranty but the same thing happened. I switched to the bean bag mount and it works great. Much easier to transfer to another vehicle.
