nuvi 350 speed/eta

I have the 350. When I'm driving without going to a specific location and using the map, it will display the direction and speed I am driving.
When I am going to a specific location, rather than showing the speed I'm traveling, it shows eta. I've tried changing it to show speed but no luck. It keeps the eta in (lower left corner display)
Anyone know how to resolve this problem?
It's not a problem...
It's working as designed. And there's no changing that. Sorry.

You can still check the
You can still check the speed by tapping either the ETA icon or the icon on the bottom right. I can't remember which
Hit the ETA
And that will take you to the 'dashboard' - where you can see speed, compass direction. elapsed miles in the trip, and miles left.

My coworker and I (who both have the 350) were talking about this yesterday. Garmin really should give us the option as to what is displayed while in route. I rather have the speed then the ETA displayed in route mode.

Agree
Agree, but you can always bring up the dashboard and leave it displayed. The 350 will continue its guidance when in this mode. Gives you the best of both worlds....

Call me old-fashioned....
But when I want to know the speed at which I'm traveling, I generally tend to use the thing I had BN (before Nuvi)...my vehicle's speedometer. Yeah, I'm weird that way.

Yeah, and you probably push the radio buttons when your Ipod battery runs out too. Some people just won't stay in the 21st Century!

no when my ipod battery goes
no when my ipod battery goes dead i just fire up my XM Satellite Radio. and when my battery in my nuvi goes dead I just pick up my handheld GPS.

I'm with the speed showing rather than ETA.
Unfortunately the speed box in the lower left of my C340 is much clearer than the speed box on the top centre of the dashboard display.
ETA is either irrelevant to me or once it is noted that's the last I want to see it. When I'm driving I like to know to the exact mph/kph what speed I'm travelling.
My vehicle's speedo is possibly inaccurate; divided into 5 kph segments on the outside and 5 or 10 mph segments on the inside.
The width of my speedo indicator is worth at least two kph and covers off 5 mph on the inside. IOW checking one's speedo give an approximate number.
That much variation can be very expensive when one thinks one is travelling at 109 kph not the actual 111 kph. if police start tagging at 110 or 111.
YMMV

Wow, what a thought!...

Yep... Definitely
But why would you want to see it in both places. I'd rather have it my estimated time of arrival as to know when the heck I am arriving.
BTW how may of you look more often into the GPS to check the speed, then in the speedometer?
The only things you regret in life are the chances you never take.

And my speedometer is larger, easier to read, and right in front of me.
I guess I'm in the minority here, but I do like the ETA display on my Nüvi.

No iPod

Nope. Don't have an iPod.
I use a Media Player in my PDA and the mp3-compatible car stereo.

.....
I have the 350 nuvi mounted on my steering column after buying the replacement suction holder (it is slightly smaller).
FWIW, my speed on the GPS is more accurate than the
dials. I've found that when the speedometer shows me at 47, I'm traveling at 45. This is consistent.
I'm less likely to be pulled over by a cop to give me a ticket because there is a visible distraction mounted on my windshield.
If I want to take a look at it, it's easier directly in front of me as well.
Since there is a separate screen you can go to that will display a variety of information, such as speed, max speed, average time,etc.... Why shouldn't I be given the option of what I want to display in the lower left hand corner?
If it can display speed when no route is entered, it should be able to display when a route is entered as well.
It's not that big of a deal, I'd just like to customize my preferences.
After all, isn't that what we're doing with all of these custom POI's on this site?
We're adding options and preferences in that aren't already on the unit. If we didn't want to add material to our GPS systems, this site wouldn't exist at all.
Yeah but...
The things we do with custom POI lists are possible because the units were programmed to deal with them. They were not programmed to provide the level of customization you desire.
*Keith* MacBook Pro *wifi iPad(2012) w/BadElf GPS & iPhone6 + Navigon*
.
And Garmin does not currently provide the functionality in the firmware to customize the fields and data shown on the various screens.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't be able to do it, but Garmin does not currently appear to be interested in providing this functionality in the units. My guess is that this is because they are focusing on the mass market which is currently the most profitable. Can't really fault them for that one.
And you can't really use the analogy of Custom POIs because we are simply doing what Garmin has allowed us to do. We are reprogramming the functionality. Garmin provided that for us.
i use to want the speed that
i use to want the speed that at first but i travel for a living and i like watching the eta time so i know how much linger i have to relax because i get to some stresfull customer
Slow down this train.
I think we sometimes forget what these things are doing. Technology most people do not understand is getting beamed into our vehicles and telling us where we are and how to get somewhere with 20 feet accuracy. And not to mention this is a big a** world. I think I can live with the eta (actually I like it there better.) I prefer my vehicle speedometer anyway.

I resemble that remark! But he does have great smile, no?
eta
I really like the eta as I can answer the question from the kids...are we there yet?
I pose another question, how does the Garmin know the eta based on the route? Does it actually know the posted speed limit of the various streets, freeways, etc. to calculate the time?
Speed vs ETA
I have a 350 and occasionally do click on the ETA to display the speedometer, trip time, max speed, etc...I've noticed on the Nuvi 650 and 200 that the speedometer on that screen is much larger in proportion to the rest of the screen. I love the accuracy of the speedometer, but Garmin, why not just put the speedometer AND the ETA on the map view?!
Speedometer built in errors

Actually I read somewhere that car speedometers have a built in error that makes the speedometer overread . The error is less at lower speeds and at higher speeds. The speeds in between seem to be off by about 2 or 3 miles per hour ( in my car ) while after about 65 - 70 mph the error becomes almost 0. The speed shown on the GPS is probably more exact than what the car is reporting.

This is true to me I prefer the ETA. The car speedometer will do.

I remember on of the link here about using the speed of the GPS. The judge ruled that the GPS is not that acurate so they lost and still get the ticket.

I like the ETA...if i want to know my speed I look at my speedometer!
I remember that post....

I remember that post but I would think he ruled that way probably because there's little that can be done to challenge police radar. If you drop into court claiming that your GPS or car speedometer indicated a speed of X while the radar indicated Y, chances are you'll lose regardless. I found this link that talks about the errors and even has a blurp about GPS calculated speeds:
