Auto Update vs Web Updater
Will someone explain to me (in layman terms)the Auto Updates (I read about in the 7x5 issue) and how this is different from the Web Updater used on the PC?

nüMaps Lifetime North America and Europe recommendations on NUVI 760
I am looking for some information about how is the best way to load both the North America and Europe Lifetime Maps. When you connect and load it, is there an option to put the European Maps on an SD card or does it all get loaded into the 760? I am going to Switzerland and Italy and it appears that the lifetime maps for North America and Europe is cheaper than any other options I might choose.

in case it hasn't been done
I would like to thank Miss Poi, and the site mods, as well as all of the dedicated expert members here for saving me from the recent Garmin fiasco
were it not for the great site you created and maintain, I would not have become a member, and more importantly, never would have browsed the site daily as religiously as I do.

885T work around?
Has anyone figured out a patch for the 885T Nuvi?
I have posted on the string by Ray3676 who asked about his Nuvi 765, and noticed that Garmin has addressed the problem with that unit, however I was told that I would have to wait a few days for a patch for my unit, and I am not sure if it would mean a download or having to send it back to them.

Nuvi 260W vs. 255W
First, both are discontinued.
Is there any reason I should not buy a discontinued model?
Second, Costco has the 260W for $149.99 - Sams Club has the 255W for $169.76.
Which should I buy?
The only real difference I can see is that the 255w has
- shorter battery life - doesn't matter as I'd never use it not plugged in
- 1000 vs 500 way points

What File Extensions Can my Nuvi 760 Read?
I have been looking with no success into which file extensions my 760 nuvi is able to read and which ones I will need to convert. Does any know have a site they can link me with a master list or know the different formats. I don't want to clutter my GPS receiver with junk it isn't even able to read.
Thanks,
Miketess

nuvi 755T multiple alert modes
While testing various types of proximity alerts on my nuvi 755T today, I inadvertently brushed my finger across the map, putting it in fixed mode--the map would not scroll with my vehicle, but stayed put.
When a proximity alert that I was testing fired off, it filled the screen with a white notification window containing the "More" text that I had put in there.

Free mandatory Garmin GPS software update for nuvi 7x5
Mandatory Software Update
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today, Garmin released a free, mandatory GPS software update to correct a software issue that has been discovered to cause the nuvi 7x5 devices to repeatedly attempt to update GPS firmware, and then either shut down or no longer acquire GPS satellite signals.

855 as trail GP
I bought an 855 to use for hiking because I hate the small screens on the
Garmin Trail models.
Are any of you using a Nuvi 855 as a trail or hiking GPS?
If so, how do you handle the short battery time? Multiple batteries?
I know it's not weather proof but as I said, I wanted the big screen.
Have you found any other limitations?

Nuvi 785t new firm ware "bricked" device
I recently updated my 785t with the latest Garmin webupdater. the next time i connected with MSN and driving, the alert kept cycling, "updating firmware... press ok".. and then would lose signal. I kept having to re-boot. Last night, it would not power back on.
Garmin has issued an immediate recall of the affected units, they sent out UPS ticket and they are replacing.

SD Card for 255w
Hello,
I am considering buying an SD Card for my Nuvi 255w and was wondering about the capacity. My local reatiler has an SDHC (High-Capacity) card, "8GB SDHC Class 6 High-Speed Memory Card" for a good price.
Has anyone tried a card of this type and/or size?
Thanks,
...Muzz

USA 760 traveling to Europe
I live in the USA and was going to take my Nuvi 760 with me to Switzerland and then to Italy. Does anyone know if the electrical connection from the USA will work in the European cars or do I need some kind of an adapter? Also, do the European Maps contain accurate and understandable directions both for points of interest and for driving? Thanks in advance.

Gamin Mobile PC with GPS 10
(Forgive me for I have sinned. I cross posted this because it was buried at the bottom of a thread with a different subject and thus elicited no responses.)
Father's Day arrived along with a nice surprise: a Samsung NC-10 Netbook. Very slick, great screen, excellent keyboard, etc., bringing me one step closer to getting a Garmin Mobile PC with GPS 10, as you suggested.

OnStar Turn-by-Turn navigation
I got to experience OnStar Turn-by-Turn navigation yesterday. My new truck came with a complementary turn-by-turn navigation session and I finally got an opportunity to use it before it expired. The yearly cost is about $100/year more than the basic Safe & Sound package.

Apology Not Accepted!
Garmin was a day late and a dollar short with their email and apology. The only apology I will accept is a follow up email announcing "Garmin is accepting applications for a Head of Software Engineering, and Chief of Software Quality Control these positions need filling immediately" with an address to send a CV.
