1.85 GB

Mine currently reads 1.85 GB capacity, 1.20 GB used, and 666 MB free space. That's with a 805 KB Current.gpx, a 9,660 KB poi.gpi, and 2009.11 North America map. I keep pictures on a SD card.

What do you have on it?

What all have you loaded to the unit?

You can delete all the voices, text files, and help files you never use or will. If you have several different maps, you can unload the ones you don't use. Same with the vehicle files.

The next thing would be to invest in an SD card. Office Depot has a 4 Gig SDHC on sale for $14.99 which is double the amount of total storage for many units.

Follow these steps

1. Connect the unit to the computer using the USB cable.
2. Use Windows Explorer to locate the unit. It will appear as a disk drive with a letter followed by a colon after it.
3. Left click on the Garmin Device to select it.
4. right click on the Garmin device and select properties. The program will tell you the total amount of user memory on the unit and the free and occupied space. See how much free space is available and write that number down.
5. Left click on the little plus sign next to the Garmin name. The window will now show you the names of the folders in the unit. You want the folder named Garmin.
6. Double click to open the Garmin folder. You should see some file names and additional folders.
7. click on the + sign by Help. Do you see a lot of entries? All but about 2 of those folders are not needed.
8. click on the folder named voice. you only need a couple of the files in here. Probably only American English. This is two files.
9. After you make a BACKUP copy of the entire contents of the Nuvi, you can now start deleting the unneeded folders under Help and the voices you will never use.
10. If you delete a voice or help file you later need, you can either copy it back to the unit from your backup or use web updater to download a fresh copy from Garmin.
11. Once you have removed the unnecessary files, you should have plenty of room to add POI. You may also want to delete your old map file. That takes about a Gig of memory. If you copy it to your computer first, you can always restore it if needed.

If you do not want to try deleting unneeded files, buy an SD card and load your POI to it.
