Display POI w/o alert

confused I hope this hasn't been asked and answered. I went through the FAQs and searched the forum, but I may well have missed it.

Is it possible to load the POI's and have the icon show on the map without an alert? I have loaded the POI's with the Garmin POI loader and disabled alerts but I don't see the icons on the map.

I usually load the POI, the icon and the sound for most of my files. If I do not specify an alert distance or speed with POILoader, the icon will show if I am zoomed in to about 300 feet. No sound, just the icon. If I set the alert in POILoader, then the sound file plays.

icon visibility

As a_user stated, the icons only show up when you are zoomed in pretty close. There are times I would like them to be visible at "normal" distances, but if I had a lot of POIs, it might get hard to see the map through all the icons.

If there are relatively few that you would like to see at greater distances, the only way I know of is to make those Favorites (Waypoints) and they will show up on the 3-D map a few miles out.

Thanks

Thanks for the info.

I was able to add some as waypoints using a .gpx file. I used GPS Utility to convert from the csv file to a gpx and then copied that to my Garmin nuvi 880. I don't have the POI icon though. It just shows up on the map as "dot" with a label.

.

You don't need to convert a csv to gpx although you can have more information displayed on the gpsr with a gpx file.

If a csv is converted to a gpx file, you'll only get what was contained in the csv and no more. So, a basic csv file converted to a gpx file then loaded via poi loader will give the same result as if just loading the csv file.

Until the gpx file is edited (or initially created) to include the extra info. ie dialable phone # etc. and resaved as a gpx, there really isn't a necessity to convert a csv to gpx.

I use Hornby's GeePeeEx editor to create gpx files. I also use it to add all sorts of extra things into csv files, then save them as gpx files.

Poi Loader will handle both file types.
