Garmin registration?

Hello to the Forum, I have been lurking here for a couple of months and decided to get some input. I bought a Zumo 550 off Ebay about 7 months ago, the seller was very helpful and sent extra parts that he initially forgot on the original shipment. The problem is he had registered it with Garmin, when I tried to register it, they said I couldn't and the only thing that could be done would be for him to call and change all his information to mine. That doesn't make sense. Does anybody have any advice or input on how to register it?

Yes, that happens to me as well.

For me, he gave me the user name and password. I then changed to my address. Everything then went well.

Does make sence

Anyone could take a gps and change the information to them even if it wasn't theirs.
The only thing to do would be for the original owner to let Garmin know it was his and he sold it. Than way you could not steal one and change it to your name. Hopefully the person you bought it from will call Garmin.

Garmin Reg.

I believe the previous owner can "unregister" it on-line. But it may take a phone call.

Updates are not a problem, the only place where that would be a conflict is if you upgraded to new maps.

Maps are unit specific.

Good luck, sound like you got a good seller.

If you ain't got pictures, I wasn't there.

.

The previous registered owner will need to call Garmin to release the registration to you.

This is to prevent registration of stolen units.

there is a button that they can select to unregister that unit

If the previous owner signs into his my Garmin account and selects the unit he sold to you under the my products tab there is a button that they can select that says "Delete Registration" to unregister the unit you bought from them. After he does that you will be able to register the unit under your name.
