Garmin talk

I have a nuvi 680 with the Clear Channel setup. I have not had an opportunity to get into heavy traffic to see how it works. If I encounter heavy traffic, or an accident ahead, will the nuvi ask me if I want to detour? Or, do I have to have an avoidance such as Traffic selected in the setup menu? Just would like to know how it would work. Thanks,

I need to do a "COMPLETE" factory reset on my Nuvi 680. I searched the forums here and found a post that said to hold down the bottom right hand corner of the screen and then power it on and release and it would ask you "Are you sure you want to reset user data" or something to that effect.

Does anybody know how to do this after I inserted one in a route?

Is there a way to change the alert tone on a Garmin IQue M3 M4 or M5. I am trying to use this for the proximity alert for the red light cameras.

Does anyone know if they will ever program logic for the Garmins to display POIs within x number of feet or miles from the current route? For example, if I have a 1200 mile route entered, I would like to know where the nearest gas station is in relation to my route not distance from my current location.

I am missing something here--if anyone can help, it would be great. I'm trying to make what I now think may need to be a TourGuide file, but I'm not sure. I am uploading these with POI Loader--but they aren't working--and after hours of trying!

Bought the 255W in Las Vegas when my C330 crashed. It can be confusing using it at home in Utah where our streets are designated as North, East, South and West. Here is the confusing part- It says turn right onto South 40th West, turning right heads you North. Why would the GPS refer to 40th West, which runs North and South, as South 40th West.

Just bought a 1490T - this is my first Garmin GPS.

Have a couple of questions:

1. I live in a rural area - as I follow a route, the surrounding countryside background is white (except for a golf course, etc.) - is this normal? From looking at the screenshots in the manual, I would have expected a light pastel green.

I own the lifetime update stuff for my 885T, but I am unable to do the update for the new map -- just announced.

It takes so long to get to talk to Garmin, I hope someone knows how to get this update done.

DorkusNimrod mentioned this news buried in an unrelated message thread, so I'll thank him here and let you know that for those of you Garmin folks with a TTS American Jill voice, there's a new update (found with WebUpdater on the page after the firmware update) to version 2.60. I didn't think to write down the update log but think it was just for better pronunciation during routing.

Do you know why everytime when I run the webupdater, it always prompt me to update my Nuvi 1350T software to version 4.0 even though my Nuvi is already udpated to version 4.0 ?

I go ahead and click on updating it, but the next time I run webupdater it prompt me to update to 4.0 again.

I was under impression that each software update comes with its own index.
I did 3.90 coupla months ago. Few days back a new update became available in Garmin’s My Dashboard, which I did. When I went in “Tools > Settings > System > About” – it still displays software version 3.90

I would never belive it but I returned my 885 for service but I forgot to remove my 4gig SD card. And of course when I got the GPS returned NO card. I called Garmin they said your out of luck they don't returned them. I just received mail from garmin and there was a brand new PNY 4 Gig Card.
Looks like Garmin is back on my good side again.
