Icons on map for nuvi 1300? (Dumb question)

Thank you for responding. I had read what you linked already. I guess I am asking is, shouldn't the GPS already have icons that show up for the preloaded POIS? Like in my example, if you are passing a gas station that is prelaodend in the nuvi, shoudln't there be some kind of icon show up on the map while you are driving?

Yes, the icons for preloaded POIs will show on the map but you have to be zoomed way in (200 ft or below, I believe) to see them on the map which is IMO, pretty useless.

I have loaded some custom POIs but have not loaded any of the icons. DO you ahve to be zoomed way in to see them as well?

Yes, you have to be zoomed in as well to see the icons (if you have loaded them) on custom POIs but note that they will also show at normal zoom levels if the POI is set up as an alert and the alert is triggered.

When I first got my GPS a year ago I was wondering the same thing: Why don't I see the icons? Then I found this site, loaded custom POIs with icons and sound, but same thing: no icons. Then I noticed they were there all along, you just need to zoom in a lot.

As you said, pretty useless when you are driving since you need to zoom out to a decent level to see what's coming. Checking the "more detail" menu selection doesn't help either. There should be a firmware update that allows some selected categories of POIs to be displayed at any zoom level (and announced with sound)

The nuvi 8x0/8x5 series does just that for map embedded POIs but without audible alerts. You can select which POI categories to show/not show on the map screen.

Good that they already thought of it. I hope this is a feature on all the newer models as well. I got my eye on the 3790
