nuvi Time Zone Map v6.0 released...

...at least for the 7x5 series. Other units may have the same update as well but I cannot confirm. As always, myDashboard won't tell you what's being updated so just use WebUpdater (be sure to check for additional updates after the initial firmware check) and eliminate the confusion.

Where Can I Find

An explanation of the "Time Zone Map" functionality?

me too

I didn't even know we had one.

.

If your unit supports it, it'll update your unit automatically when you cross a time zone. Like when you go from Pacific to Mountain time.

.

All xx5 series (except for the 8x5) and 1xxx series should support auto time zone change and have the timezone map (gmaptz.img) on the nuvi drive in the Garmin or .system folder.

Riddle Me This

Through WebUpdater I received the Bluetooth and Time Zone Map updates in that order at two different times.

between the two WebUpdater sessions I went to My Dashboard and it reported a software update. I allowed it to update.

After the last WebUpdater session, I went to My Dashboard again and it told me there was a software update. Now both WebUpdater and My Dashboard are telling me I'm all up top date.

What were the two software updates that My Dashboard did if WebUpdater took care of the Time Zone and Bluetooth updates?

My software version still remains 3.9.

Hard to tell

Hard to tell since Dashboard doesn't tell you what it's updating only that there is something to update. IMHO it much safer to always use Webupdater as you can at least control what is being updated. It could have been something as simple as a couple of txt files for languages you have on your Nuvi and you simply ignore if listed in Webupdater as you don't use them.

Software Update Trick to Register without Updating

I saw this somewhere and don’t remember where. I am not the original author however I did recreate the steps needed to get this right.

For PC users:

1. Go to My Computer and select your Garmin drive.
2. Select your Garmin folder and open it.
3. Look for a file named GarminDevice (xml document). Right click and select “open with” and select Notepad.
4. Look for < SoftwareVersion >360< /SoftwareVersion > and change the numbers to the most current one that you don’t want to install.
5. Run the Garmin Update and you’ll avoid the software update.
6. Download all other updates that you like.

Enjoy!

Hmmmmm

Its still working so it is of little concern to me. Just curious.

I am simply going to stop using Dashboard for the simple fact that it doesn't give us information about what part of the "software" its updating.

Thanks T9 for your comments.

Have a look at this:

my Dashboard vs WebUpdater...which should I use?

I agree - it's like selecting the custom installation option when installing SW on your PC. I like the freedom of not only knowing what is being installed, but having some sort of control over what gets put on it.
