Garmin talk

My Garmin 1390 lately only shows major roads (highways, interstates), no neighborhood roads, and takes very roundabout routing (like 9 miles to go the last mile to a destination since it uses major roads and not neighborhood roads). I can't find any setting that might cause this.

I'm trying to help a friend (really!) who somehow deleted a bunch of files/folders on their Garmin nuvi 1350T. It turns on, and appears to work, but there are no maps or voices. As near as I can tell, several critical files and folders have been deleted from the unit. (Yes, I've unhid system files and folders.)

I raise the question because I remember there was a time when non volatile (programmable) chips were said to have had a limited reprogrammable cycle life. Is that true with today's programmable chips (that can be found in modern Nuvi, Oregon, eTrex units?) Then again with that issue aside, there is the matter of risking "well enough software" for a potentially unstable update, per given unit.

I feel like an idiot...

Although I've successfully loaded the Rest Areas POI, I can't figure out how to enable proximity alerts on my Garmin 255w.

Is there anyone out there who can guide me through the basic steps that I need to follow to activate this feature?

Any help would be appreciated!

Is there any benefit to installing a memory card in the 2595? BTW, My 2595 has been working flawlessly (from my other post) since then. Imported my csv files using the software, with separate subfolders. All is well. Just the ? about the card.

By accident I just formatted my nuvi 765 device. I have no backup (doh!) or files on the SD card that can help me. Is there any way I can recover/reinstall the OS?

I have downloaded the HD.bmp,and added it to my poi folder.why does the bmp icon show on my garmin550.

If you are trying to use Garmin Express to update your device and it says no room no matter what coverage you select, don't use Garmin Express. Download and use Garmin Map Updater (the old way).

Is there an ideal setting when installing red light cameras? For example, should I use the express setting (in garmin poi loader) or should I set the feet alerts myself, and if I do set it myself, what settings feet number should I use? Thanks, anyone?

Hello, Is it possible to load POI's using POI Loader on the model 2595 ? Have a feeling it's not possible. Anybody know of a work around possibly? Is there a list somewhere that has all the models (especially the new ones) that POI Loader works with?

Battery life is 20 or so min I've been told... Has DC adapter and suction mount.. No FM Receiver, but she didn't want that.

I got the serial number from fellow, and called Garmin. That has never been registered before..

Each time I try to import a .gpx file into Garmin Basecamp I get a failure notice. Does anyone understand what I might be doing wrong? I've tried a file that works in GoogleEarth.

This has bugged me for some time now. I live in an area of North Carolina where there are several bodies of water. For some reason, Navteq data does not have (detailed) information of the major river that flows through town. It just has a line with odd angles in it that is not representative at all of how the river actually is.

This latest update is available for the 3xx7 series.

A Nuvi 50, about 6 months old just lost its screen calibration. Some buttons worked fine, others only worked if you pressed above their position on the screen, others couldn't be pressed at all.

Fortunately it was easy to fix by the screen calibration process (no thanks to Garmin for not including the steps needed in their documentation).

I am currently running my old 855 and my 3790LMT in my car at the same time. For example if I want to go in the downtown direction (15 miles), the 855 correctly has me turning right (West) at the next major road toward where I want to go.

I have a Nuvi 2797, I have uploaded the poi file(Starbucks) and notice that the prox alarm(wav) does not work. Any ideas? Thanks.
