Yes, it looks like. It does not work anymore. I am new to this app because I just recently upgraded my Nuvi. But I have noticed that you can search locations within the app on your phone and then transfer to your unit.

Maybe it's not Garmin

Ever consider that Google may have demanded an unreasonable licensing fee for the API to access their data?? Or that Google simply quit allowing Garmin, and others to use an API to access their data anymore so Google could make sending data between apps/devices proprietary to Android and devices running it for a "competitive advantage"??

Google maps?

It might not be Garmin. Google has been busy updating and changing Google Maps both online and on android. These changes have disabled a lot of features that I have been using. I suspect that Google is responsible and hopefully we'll see it fixed at some point soon.

I switched Garmin device and

I switched Garmin device and also upgraded my phone to JB 4.3. Now I don't thinks it is sending any traffic updates to my Nuvi anymore. Only weather seems to be working..

Traffic intermittent

I'm running IOS 6.1.3 with Smartlink 1.5. Traffic drops and comes back about 50/50, so I don't trust it. I have a 3597 and am relying on the cable now since HD now includes weather. However, I miss the "radar" map that smartlink provides like the old MS service.

Smartphone Link got updated to 1.5.1 today

Not seeing 1.5.1 yet from app store

I'm only seeing 1.5 in the iTunes app store when I search Garmin. With 1.5 I've recently noticed if I'm not running the app (I've clicked the x so it doesn't run in the background) as soon as the GPS comes up Smartlink opens automatically on my Iphone 4. I've seen this happen twice. Its like the bluetooth connection is launching the app. Most of the time it fails to sync even with a manual launch.

I am sorry. I forgot to

I am sorry. I forgot to mention that this update is for Android. I am guessing update for IOS should be out very soon.

Why are the maps in this

Why are the maps in this program so poor in quality? When you zoom out to see traffic and weather it only shows major arteries like interstates and US routes. It's a world of difference compared with Google Maps. This app sure needs some work!

send location Broken in Google Maps V7

Garmin updated Smartphone Link to version 1.5.1 today to fix the send locations from Google map.
This feature is back again.

@rookie8155: Which version Google Maps are you running? The Version 7 update (Aug 8) broke Smartphone Link for me.

Google Navigation is integrated into Maps V7, so the "Complete action using" prompt no longer appears (because there is no Navigation app). Without the prompt, it is impossible to send an address from Maps to Smartphone Link.

You can still send locations to Smartphone Link from other apps such as People, Foursquare, CacheSense (geocaching), Flixster, etc.

EDIT: using Android 4.3, Maps 7.0.2, Smartphone Link 1.5.1

I have JB 4.3 and same

I have JB 4.3 and same version of Google Maps 7.0.2.
You can still send location from Google maps..
Type the address in the address bar of Google maps and search it. Once it finds the address, you will see red exclamation mark or bubble. Once you touch this red exclamation mark, it gives you two options.. Save or Share. you touch Share and then select Smartphone Link app. It will send the location to Garmin.
I hope this helps..

Google is starting a campaine of not playing well with others..

Thanks Rookie8155

Ahah! Smartphone Link has a bug when it doesn't understand the address part of a POI that Google Maps sent. It says "This location must be found on a map before navigation can occur. Select this location from a map and send to your Garmin navigator again." instead of saying that the address could not be resolved.

For example, search boat cruises near:Bobcaygeon,ON in Maps. From the search results list,selecting/sharing Bobcaygeon Boat Cruises works, but Orillia Boat Cruises fails with the "must be found" error message (because the address is a P.O. Box).

Reported to Garmin...

Your message is not very clear. First of all, what type of phone you have? is it Android or IOS? Secondly, if it is Android, what version of Android on your phone? If you have Android 4.3 then Google changed their maps and navigation is built-in now. If that is the case them please refer to my previous post above.

If it aint broke

If it aint broke don't fix it

you can still send location to garmin smartphone link

I found the way you can send locations from mobile google maps to garmin thru smartphone link. lately mobile google maps has been sending wrong locations to garmins thru smartphone link like 1000's miles away since garmin doesn't take addresses just cordinates. First find the location in mobile google maps them try to zoom in the location you want to send it garmin. Then press and hold on the very next to location red icon for one or two second and you will get new red icon very next to your location on google maps. Then same as usual just tap on the new red icon then you will get few options and tap on share and choose smartphone link.

why make it easy for the customer

absolutely. Seems like their mis-guided marketing philosophy is: "why make it easy for the customer when complicating it makes our company better and more profitable".

I think it was fixed in

I think it was fixed in version 1.5.1 for Android. It must be fixed on IOS side as well.

Yes

Yes, it seems like they roll out a new feature for a short while, only to take it away a few releases later just to frustrate us. Keeps me from committing my loyalty to Garmin.

I'd go for it if they did.

I thought it was one time fee. If you check subscription within the app, it gives your some strange year number. It does not say it will expire in 2014.

I just checked mine. It says " your subscription expires on 6/27/1993.". It does not say next year.

wrong store displayed if multiple locations

rookie8155, after some investigation, my issue seems to be when there are multiple locations for a place name. Street addresses and unique place names are OK.

Try this (in Brampton) - if you search for Five Guys, Maps displays the Bramalea City Centre location. Share to Smartphone Link, and the Manhattan location in New York City is displayed. A Maps search for Sears shows the Queen St. store, Smartphone Link shows another Sears south of Los Angeles.

WAASup, I just tried now.

WAASup, I just tried now. You are right. I tried Five Guys and showed location in New York on map. Then I tried for Pizza Hutt in Brampton, Google map showed this Brampton location on Queen Street but when shared on Smartphone Link app, it showed on Sandalwood Pkwy in Brampton. Now, I don't know how it was in previous version.

Either or Both ;)

I was curious if your environment was similar; letting Garmin know would be good too. Hopefully it would help to find a solution.

Google Maps was upgraded to 7.4.0 yesterday (Nov 7) for "bug fixes". I won't be able to test until I get home on the weekend.
