Pop up ads on Google Navigation

I was using Google Navigation on my Android phone on Saturday, and stopped at a stoplight with a Home Depot on the corner. After a few seconds, a full-screen Home Depot ad popped up on the screen. And it did not automatically clear itself after the light turned green and I started moving again. I have never seen a popup ad before while using Google Navigation. They did just do an upgrade to their maps and navigation. I have not had any other popup ads before with Google. Has anyone else seen this?

Google Maps Upgrade

There have also been threads regarding massively decreased battery life on phones which have been traced to the recent "upgrade" of Google Maps. People have been dumping the updates wherever possible in order to get back the battery life. "New and improved" isn't always what it's cracked up to be.

The more...

Just like government, the more you want it to do, the more it will cost. For a smartphone, the cost is battery life. Using Google Maps (or any other nav app) sucks more juice by having the GPS enabled. Not sure how much processing power it needs, but there again it all takes power.

On a side note, why is this in the Garmin section?

This is good to know. I had heard about other problems on the new version, so I've stuck with v. 6.14.4.

Between that, and the new permissions apps try to sneak in, I'm never in a rush to update things. Unless it's acting up or crashing, I leave it alone.

I completely agree. "Permission creep" has been pervasive on android apps. An apps' upgrade will promote wonderful new features, and then you see the upgrade can change your passwords or be an "account authenticator".

On any drive I always use a dedicated Garmin GPS. That leaves my phone to be a phone. Better battery life and all.

Don't....

To be honest, I don't even notice it when I use it on my android or my iphone... Is it that big of an issue?
