I just found Topographic OpenStreetMap maps for Garmin devices yesterday. I am just curious is anybody else is using them and what your experiences have been with them.

Is this worth picking up as a backup to my 3597?

Am I missing anything? Currently I use a second 3597 & my iQue as backups but 3597 has a problem with the SD slot and iQue mostly is for overseas travel. It handles NZ maps real well.

On my older Garmin Nuvi's I was able to enter and display owner info (name, address, telephone etc) and was able to add a custom startup splashscreen with contact info in case of loss (or theft!).

I cannot find any way to do this on the DriveSmart 66.

Back in September of 2022, I reported that my Nuvi 2689LMT was stuck in a continous boot loop and unusable.

I let a buddy try fixing it using "Cure", but no luck.

On this forum, it was suggested that I send the GPS in to Short Tronics (aka The Palm Doctor) in Minnesota. I finally decided to get the device fixed, so I got it back from my buddy and sent it in.

I have never owned a handheld GPS. I have only used automobile navigators. I started reading up on the Garmin Montana 700. It seems to have mostly positive reviews.

Does anybody here happen to have a Garmin Montana 700? I would likely use it for ATVing and e-bike rides.

While I intended to update to 2024.10 I used an Undelete program to remove N.A 2022.2. After that I found that my BaseCamp and MapSource programs had dissappeared. I had to download BaseCamp and MapSource to re-install them.

I finally updated my collection of Garmins today (I know, way late, I've been gone a while) using the clone method on a few of them including the zumo 665. They are all working fine but the zumo 665 still shows 2023.20. It has shown the previous version ever since I started using the clone update.

This was in my incoming emails today, ignore this garbage and delete it !

I checked the accuracy of some of my Garmin GPSs a couple of days ago and got these results. I haven't read much lately on the newest GPS receiver chipsets, though.

Garmin Accuracy:

Nuvi 500: 62 Foot Accuracy

Nuvi 3597: 18 Foot Accuracy

DriveLuxe 51: 10 Foot Accuracy

DriveSmart 65 with Amazon Alexa: 10 Foot Accuracy

Does anybody here get accuracy of better than 10 feet?

I have been doing some testing of other maps recently and have even done a couple of posts about it here on POI Factory. For whatever reason I was having a challenge getting OpenStreetMaps (OSM) onto my Garmin Zumo XT. Someone suggested OpenMapChest and worked for me.

I have a Nuvi 2589, and I am looking at installing the speed camera file.
Can I just put it on a MicroSD Card?
This unit has school zones already.
Traffic works somewhat.

I had an incident involving my RV890 on a recent trip to Vermont that I've never encountered before with any of my GPSr's. I navigated to the hotel where I was staying and turned the unit off for the night. When I fired it up the next morning, the GPS booted normally but couldn't acquire any satellites.

I just returned from a Spain trip. I loaded OSM European maps onto my Garmin 3597 (US version) and it worked very well. I did have to fight with it a few times to make it go on the rural routes I wanted to go on. But the route it chose was accurate, just not my preference. In the cities, it was right on. Driving in Spain is another issue.

My wife and I are ATVers. We typically ride in Minnesota and Wisconsin, but occasionally into Michigan and South Dakota. I have a Garmin Zumo XT. I do have VV Maps, which work great in MN, SD and WI. I am looking for ATV trail maps that will work on my Garmin Zumo XT.

Got an email that said due to no acitivity on my Garmin account they would cancel my account it not reactivated withing 60 days. Is his a normal procedure by Garmin?

My Garmin DriveSmart 5 has picked up the bad habit of frequently rebooting while I am driving. Also, the battery which was replaced one year ago, is not holding much charge. I decided to replace it with a Nuvi 2455LMT. I hate the popup messages on the Drive Series warning me about upcoming curves, and driving the wrong way.

I see with the various lists for businesses, and icon file is included. How do I add this to my BaseCamp?
