Garmin Eco-Route HD

I bought a new vehicle recently and when I was cleaning out the trade in, I discovered an old Garmin Eco-Route HD module plugged into the vehicle diagnostic port.

It was compatible with a few older Nuvi's which I no longer own. I was going to give it away when I discovered that the device is still in production. Although it isn't compatible with any newer Garmin GPSr's, It does work with the Garmin Mechanic app for Android smartphones:

I remember the Eco-Route was fun to play with and it did have a few useful features. Does anyone still use this old device?

Also, if your vehicle has

Also, if your vehicle has Auto Stop/Start it won't work. Every time the Auto Stop kicks in, it thinks you have turned the vehicle off. Doesn't reconnect to Garmin automatically after that.

Good to Know.

All three of my vehicles have auto stop. I guess I'll put the Eco Route up on eBay rather than use it.

Thanks for the info!

Had one for years but time moves on

Had to give mine up when I upgraded to my DS65. Very disappointed when I found the DS65 was not compatible. Found it a fun/useful gadget.

What if Auto Start Stop is temporarily disabled?

If Auto Start Stop is temporarily disabled, will the device work for at least that journey?

Yes it will. It's the actual

Yes it will. It's the actual shutting off of the engine that triggers it.

If you have an Android Smartphone, you could try the Garmin Mechanic app:

Garmin Eco-Route HD

I have a functioning Ecoroute in my car and wanted to place it in a different car and Garmin GPS that support Ecoroute. When I select Ecoroute on the other car, I get a screen telling me to go to Garmin.com/ecoroute to unlock.

How do I get around this? The Ecoroute can obvously only be used in one vechicle at a time so why it is locked? I do not remember linking it to a particular GPS.

I've used the Ecoroute in several vehicles and never had to unlock anything.

They were older vehicles though so something may have changed.

I wish they'd have kept this.

I had one. I liked it. I wish they had kept it going and just offered it as an option for all of the future GPS units. Even just having the raw information there would be great.

I wasn't a fan of the "green leaf" rating where it basically tried to judge you on how you drove vs how much you loved the Earth but that was the thing back then. Some cars still have that, today. It's gimmicky IMO.

It's not hard to figure out: Want to use less gas? Drive less aggressively and slower. That's pretty much it.

Great little device, however.

Ecoroute

Want to sell it?

Be aware..

What's available using the Ecoroute varies as to what's available by manufactur & module.

When I had it in my 2000 Crown Victoria PI, I had access to lots of stuff.

When I put it into my 2017 Honda Civic, I lost ~ 40% of the functionality.

The Biggest Problem..

The biggest problem using Eco-Route is the auto-stop feature on my newer GM vehicles. As mentioned by RayJay above, when the engine automatically turns off at red lights or in traffic jams, Eco-Route disconnects and must be manually restarted.

The auto-stop feature can be disabled to use Eco-Route but I like the fuel savings the feature provides.

hidden gem but not fully working!

I do love Eco-Route function but not really for new car tech as today.

Eco-Route works fine with old model in Asia, but not in US

Eco-Route HD is new one but still not really functional.

As someone mentioned earlier, sometime it just stops at nowhere even at STOP sign.

When talking about Eco-Route, it supposes to sync your speed, your road and your car technies, but it seems only used sync in speed and gas prices at all.

Sometime Eco-Route took me on the hill road instead of other travel around without hill, this is really down image for Eco-Route.

Hope have more time to discuss on this matter.

Forget to mention, old model don't need to have Eco-Route cable while the new one need to buy it separately.

Good day!
