Keeping the Windmill Alive - Where was your last trip with your GPS?

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

This isn't my last trip, but I thought I'd share this.

My sister and her husband just got back from England and Scotland. Before they left they purchased a Nuvi 270. She said it saved their marriage.

With absolute accuracy, it took them down old dirt wagon roads and goat paths until they reached their destination - an old English cottage in the middle of no where that belonged to an old aunt. I saw the pictures of these four ft. wide dirt roads and was amazed that a GPS even knew they existed.

The GPS also was a big help in city driving as well.
After much debate, they were truly happy with their decision to buy it for this trip. She said the could have rented one for $20 a day out there and they stayed 20 days. Considering they paid $400 for it here in the US, it paid for itself. My sister said that if she never used it again, she got her monies worth!
(Being a golfer and a motorcycist, I'm sure she'll be using it again, and again.)

Then - on to Old Country Cheese Factory, rural Cashton, WI - (N43.71028 W90.72146) - it's in Wisconsin's Amish Country - on the winding roads to get there, one is likely to encounter horse drawn carriages, and wagons - and this time of year, harvesting done the old fashioned way - as in pre-tractor. There is nothing like cheese curds fresh from the vat, still warm, and freshly bagged.

Apples! The area along WI state highway 101 at its intersection with US-61 (N43.32695 W90.74153) and West to Gays Mills, WI (N43.31316 W90.84234) is a fine apple growing area - with several orchards along the way - Sunrise Orchard (N43.31763 W90.83117) is my favorite. Their apple doughnuts are to die for.

Final stop before heading home - Lansing, IA and their Mt. Hosmer City Park (N43.36187 W91.22223) - features two scenic overlooks down on the Upper Mississippi National Wildlife Refuge, and the town of Lansing. Has a cool bridge over the main channel of the river - and is the location of the probably most difficult turn for barge traffic on the river - almost a 90 degree turn.

Was an enjoyable day.

We have made that same trip. Note to self. Do it during apple harvest.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

Safe traveling...

I95 south and back

Went south past Baltimore and back yesterday. nuvi worked fine as far as avoiding lockups. On the return trip, a major traffic jam prior to the I895 tunnel (alternate return route) went unreported until after we had sat for 10 minutes. 15 minutes later we were past the road work. Not a disaster, but I would have switched off if the alert had popped up in time.

Windmills identify you as a supporter of the site. This includes just posting as posts often are for answering questions or sharing information. Having a windmill also provides additional privileges - and responsibilities. With a windmill you get access to some restricted content which you lose when you no longer have either a windmill or general maintainer stars.

October 19th....

We are driving up to Redding CA (about 11 hours drive from San Diego to visit my sister,) (another proud Gsrmin owner)Should be great fun! I've never taken the thing on that long of a drive. I know it knows where to take us...or at least I think it does. Anyway, We are anxious to go...I'll report when I get back. We will use the Garmin VOLVO model that came with our XC-70, I think it is a Garmin Model 760? Will take our time and visit "many" wineries along the way, and stay at a nice little B&B we found where you get dinner and a Continental breakfast for $119.00 a night...I suppose that they (B&B's) are having a rough time attracting business too...can't beat that!

PR covereage Good, St. Thomas OK, Jamaica - no-ting mon

Just got home from a Celebrity cruise on the Solstice. My new Garmin 3790T worked well on the ship and ashore.

It had great road coverage in San Juan, PR, acceptable road data in St. Thomas, USVI, and had not a ting mon, in Jamaica. It did, however, have POIs in the Caymans. Go figure.

1st time using! 265WT

I love the traffic feature, especially living in the Chicago area during construction season!

I always wanted a GPS of my own, but there are family members with them I could borrow if needed.

Well, one day on the way to work (8 months at this job)
I am driving along the tollway and suddenly realize nothing looks familiar!! Then it hits me, I missed my exit! I get off the Tollway at the next exit just hoping it will let me get back on the other way, or else I am guessing my way to work on the side streets.
Luckily I could get back on right away, but that was enough for me to say, TIME TO BUY A GPS!

Got it yesterday and used it today for the 1st time. It took the traffic feature some time to appear, but finally did and was kinda cool I thought.

Anyway, more trips to come! Camping trip in 2 weeks.

Wanderlust 2010

Last May I took my Nuvi 270 on a 15,000 miles jaunt through the western U.S., western Canada, and Alaska. I also had a iQue 3600. My Nuvi is set to speak to me in Spanish and the 3600 in English. Neither failed to keep me on track during the whole trip and the 3600 helped me watch my speed in Canada (kph). The Nuvi even guided me all the way to Inuvik NWT and back. Was a wonderful trip.

Trip to Spain

I am currently uaing my Nuvi 270 in Spain. I kept track of our position all the way across the Atlantic. I also have the latest safety camera data loaded for Spain and Portugal and it has probably saved me a traffic ticket at least once during my commutes from Sevilla to Rota. I love this thing!

Costco and back

Smooth, uneventful trip for a nice change!

Trip to Waterloo, IA

smile

All went smooth with the fairly new 755T except just west of Dubuque Iowa. Traveling west on Hi 20 the Garmin was bound and determined to send me onto OLD Hi 20 for ten miles. I somewhat knew the route and ignored it but can not figure out why. I have the route set on fastest but old Hi 20 is neither the fastest or shortest. The rest of the trip was spot on going two different routes.

I-95 South

No issues either leg of the trip going south / north on I-95 on Saturday. The only traffic was on the opposite side of the road, so no warnings were needed. Smooth traveling...

used a golf gps twice this week.. nice to be able to play golf that many times

Last trip was to Pahrump,

Last trip was to Pahrump, Nevada... I live in Vegas so not very far. I use my 855 for MP3's as well as a GPS. On this trip I took the long way around so I wouldn't need to go over the mountain.. about 7° grade... chugging up at 45 MPH isn't really fun, so the long way is fine. I have it set for fastest way and yet twice it tried to get me to turn onto a dirt road and go over the other end of the mountains on jeep trails!!!! In fact a goat would have trouble getting over some parts of it!!! If I didn't know the area I might have turned down the road because the GPS said to and I would have really been stuck!!
