Keeping the Windmill Alive - Where was your last trip with your GPS?

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

This isn't my last trip, but I thought I'd share this.

My sister and her husband just got back from England and Scotland. Before they left they purchased a Nuvi 270. She said it saved their marriage.

With absolute accuracy, it took them down old dirt wagon roads and goat paths until they reached their destination - an old English cottage in the middle of no where that belonged to an old aunt. I saw the pictures of these four ft. wide dirt roads and was amazed that a GPS even knew they existed.

The GPS also was a big help in city driving as well.
After much debate, they were truly happy with their decision to buy it for this trip. She said the could have rented one for $20 a day out there and they stayed 20 days. Considering they paid $400 for it here in the US, it paid for itself. My sister said that if she never used it again, she got her monies worth!
(Being a golfer and a motorcycist, I'm sure she'll be using it again, and again.)

My 1690 is performing well back in OH. I use it a lot to get acclimated to the area. It's great for house hunting.

Sunday trip south of Baltimore and Back

No major issues. Stopped by PF Changs in White Marsh - did not show up in the Nuvi list, but given it's a newer location, that's understandable. Traffic warnings were pretty much on target and timely. In general terms, a better experience today compared to yesterday's hotel location error smile

Sunny Florida?

Spent a month in Fla. Not typical Fla. weather, mid 60s, windy. But...I wasn't shoveling snow!

Looking for Shrubs

We just returned from a trip to Michigan. On the way back to north Georgia, we checked virtually every Home Depot within a couple miles of the route for PJM Rhododendron's. We used the Garmin to locate the stores along the route, checked the map to see their location and then used the phone number in the POI to call them. You might ask why - well we bought some at our local store and decided we needed more. Of course they are not sure they will get anymore in so we decided to check other stores. It was good fun and kept my wife occupied. Unfortunately we were not successful. We will be checking with a local store today to see if they can order more for us.

The Home Depot POI file was great.

I didn't take a long trip

I didn't take a long trip but I did leave my Nuvi255W on while I drove some backroads (forest roads) in central/northern Arizona. I was pleasantly surprised that the Nuvi showed the numbered Forest Service Roads. This will be extremely useful with my recreational topo map books as I will be able to see the different FS roads on the GPS. Frio Frijoles!

DC GPS problem

"The only problem I had was trying to connect in pedestrian mode when walking around the mall right in DC. I let it go one time for about 30 minutes without ever finding a satellite."

I wonder if they do jamming to prevent accurate GPS fixes in certain locations

Fort Bragg California

From my home town, 1/3 of the route was different on the way out than going home which was cool. I live 6 miles south of where I "started".

Saw a couple of new roads and a new way through Colusa.

Ft. Bragg was cool. The POIs (that came with my nuvi... I'm still in the noob-learning mode) directed me to the fishhouse we wanted to eat at as well as a few other sights and one out-of-date Shell station.

Next trip... Minnesota, hopefully with lots of radius alerts for National Monuments... (my next "My Motorcycle In Front Of..." photography project.)

We're headed to

Mather Campground on the south rim of the Grand Canyon via Tempe, AZ. Planning to use nothing but the GPS for the entire trip!

Chicago to San Antonio

Just returned from a trip to Texas. Man the traffic in Texas is horrible. It's the fault of the highway designers. Seems all of the major highways have frontage roads running along them. There are way to many entrance and exit ramps, that cause a constant merge state of mind, doesn't help that the truckers have the right to be in any lane instead of restricted. Then there ae the speed traps. The Texas drivers are so paranoid about getting caught they seem to drive way under the limit.

I too...

use the heck out of my 350....Have a 360, and a 370 for trips to Europe. I personally think that the 300 series is a great one. They do all I NEED them to do, and more! Do not use the traffic part of the 370 because in San Diego, there is always traffic, so no need for that here.

update to my 650 and florida trip. we went to airport from our motel (no problem getting to motel first time) to pick up rental car for friends daughter and son in law. had reset garmin to motel as home. we got lost . garmin had us going in circles again .finally stopped at gas station again and luckily a young guy said oh i live right across from where you need to turn so follow me , but being the nice guy he was he drove us right to the motel parking lot . it was confusing as the gas station we stopped at was 3 miles from the motel where it had us going in circles.

House hunting

Since here in OH, I have been using mine to familiarize myself with the area and more so to locate houses. It comes in handy to plan a route based on the houses you want to look at. I have had no other issues with the 1690 since the trip up when the Edge network decided to quit, but the garmin portion worked flawlessly.

Poor Traffic Warning

Had another trip past Baltimore recently and received zero warning about a 15-20 minute delay on I-95 north of White Marsh. The accident must have occurred at least 20 minutes before we passed as emergency vehicles were on the scene and only a highway assistance truck had gone past on the shoulder as we waited. Not a major issue, but at least a little annoying. The rest of the trip was uneventful (though traffic was heavy).

Went down to Staples Center

Went down to Staples Center for the M Buble concert.

I have the GTM 20 with FM TMC. Pretty good traffic indicator and lifetime to boot.

Mixed Traffic Results Today

Southbound traffic was backed up on I95 early this afternoon - the roadway traffic signs gave us a heads up, but the Nuvi (TTN service) did not give any indication of trouble. Fail for the southbound leg.

The northbound return trip also included major traffic jams, but we did get a warning in plenty of time to avoid the delays. Passed.

Just got back from Florida

Used Lola when I drove down to Florida. Since I-40 was closed in NC, I had to drive down I-75 to I-10 and then across to I-95 since I planned on staying overnight in Titusville. Drove into Miami to the cruise terminals without a hitch, even though the roads get kind of tricky down next to Miami. Driving back, I cut across Alligator Alley, (kind of interesting), and then up I-75 to Tampa. Drove across the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, (a beautiful structure), and then back home. No trouble whatsoever with Lola. She had a very nice temperment on this trip.
