Keeping the Windmill Alive - Where was your last trip with your GPS?

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

This isn't my last trip, but I thought I'd share this.

My sister and her husband just got back from England and Scotland. Before they left they purchased a Nuvi 270. She said it saved their marriage.

With absolute accuracy, it took them down old dirt wagon roads and goat paths until they reached their destination - an old English cottage in the middle of no where that belonged to an old aunt. I saw the pictures of these four ft. wide dirt roads and was amazed that a GPS even knew they existed.

The GPS also was a big help in city driving as well.
After much debate, they were truly happy with their decision to buy it for this trip. She said the could have rented one for $20 a day out there and they stayed 20 days. Considering they paid $400 for it here in the US, it paid for itself. My sister said that if she never used it again, she got her monies worth!
(Being a golfer and a motorcycist, I'm sure she'll be using it again, and again.)

My wife took the 260W on her trip to my daughter's. It is not that far away but she doesn't pay attention when I drive so the Garmin will provide a reliable route when she is by herself. Good for shopping too. smile

Bellingham, WA to Vancouver, BC

Turned on the GPS at the border, choosing a dim sum place in Richmond as the destination.

It seemed a little strange that the route was different from a previous trip, but I continued on, as I wasn't carrying a map. The GPS took me off the limited-access highway onto the suburban and city streets, wandering all over the Fraser river delta, adding a good hour and a half to a one-hour trip.

After leaving the restaurant and plugging in Home as the destination, the arrival time for this one-hour trip was shown as five hours away.

Hmmm, better reset. Now the arrival time was 55 minutes and the route looked like major highways.

After thinking about it, my 10-year-old grandson, who likes to explore the settings, must have set it for pedestrian or off-road or at least avoid major highways. At least the dim sum was very good.

Nothing special, a trip to Mont Sutton from Montreal, the unit keeps wanting to take some strange route which we ignored - like turning left when we knew we had to turn right at some point. May be one day we will try its route but we absolutely had to be there by 9am. Luckily I had taken "recalculating" off the tts list. Btw I am alternating between shortest and fastest profile (which seems to want to take a permanently congested route around my house, and no way to do a specific road avoidance on my nuvi 255w), shortest works fine for my inner city driving.

WAAS is supposed to be more accurate. It supposedly narrows down your location. I haven't really noticed a big difference though with WAAS turned on. I always leave it turned off on my GPS.

First trip with the 265T

Leaving at 3:00AM on Dec 23rd Pooler GA to Youngstown Ohio. Done the trip many times but the Garmin will be keeping us on track with the occasional rerouting on the way to go the way I want to go. Have a safe holiday everyone.

Trip went well. Of course the GPS took me way I was not familiar with but worked out to verify one of my POI listings that I do not go by on a regular basis.

Montreal

We just returned from a weekend in Montreal. My 265WT was invaluable in navigating to various places. It sometimes took me several tries before the GPS would recognize the street names but in the end.....it was great !!!!!

Christmas locations

We took ours on a few Christmas celebrations/light looking. The most interesting use of the GPS was when we were in a drive-through style one that was a dud and we would celebrate when traffic got faster than 2 MPH indicated on the GPS.

Montreal

first use of nuvi 265wt

I took my new garmin nuvi 265wt that i got for christmas from Dallas to Odessa which was an 11 hour trip due to the snow storm around Abilene. I just wish there were traffic updates outside of the metroplex.

Yesterday was my last trip with the GPS

I guess it qualifies as a trip, I went someplace I have never been before.
I recently became involved in geocaching. I load the caches into my c330 to get me close and then get out and use my GPSr to find the hide.
So for the last week and a 1/2, while I am on vacation, I have gone someplace new, almost everyday, with the 330 leading the way.

Southern Illinois

Made the trip to visit family.
Funny how the Pioneer AVIC and the Garmin Nuvi 465T decided that I should take different routes.
From Detroit to S. ILL, one via Chicago the other via Indy.
I chose to follow the Garmin as I have very little faith in the AVIC in-dash device.
Trip mileage differed by 34.2 miles GPS vs. Trip Odometer.

Harrisonburg, VA

Through CT, NY, NJ, PA, MD, WV and VA then back through MD, DE, NJ, NY and home to CT.

Short Trip

I don't drive my diesel around town much - use it for long trips. I did short drive yesterday, mainly to check the NUVI 5000. This GPS is a nice 7 inch screen, but has taken an hour or more to find satellites on 4 or 5 occasions. Worked fine! I have contacted Garmen and they did not have much to offer, other than reboot.

1950 Miles Trip.

I just finished an about 1950 miles trip from Northern Ontario to Southern Texas with my Nuvi 765T. The unit performed almost perfectly and I'm very happy with it. Once I set American Jack on mute and when I wanted to turn him on again the screen locked. I tried to hold the power button on off for ten seconds several times but it wouldn't help. After I turned the unit off for 15 to 20 minutes it worked again. Also twice in Indianapolis the screen went a kind of bluish. That lasted for two to three minutes each time and it went back to normal. Otherwise the 765T worked fine.

trip

I recently took a trip and the GPS wanted me to get off the freeway and get right back on. There was not traffic reported on the GPS so I don't know what the deal was. I didn't do it of course but thought that was a little weird.

Vacation Trip

This past summer, I took my GPS on a family vacation to San Diego, Flagstaff, and Pheonix. Before leaving home, I had found the exact locations of our hotel rooms via Google Earth's street-view. My family memebers thought I was a little geeky in using the GPS, but as the week progressed, their opinions changed. A flight was canceled and we arrived at 11PM in Flagstaff via a taxi ride from Pheonix (compliments of the airline). We were able to get our rental car and were absolutely exhausted. The GPS took us unerringly through an unfamiliar city to our hotel room. There was not a single complaint about me "messing" with the GPS during the remainder of our trip.
