You may be updating now but are you updating to City Navigator North America 2016.10? I don't think so.

Are woefully over rated.. now if your references were in units of

Julian year (1 a = 365.25 d = 31.5576 Ms)

decade (10 years/annum)

century (100 annum = 3.15576 Gs)

millennium (1 ka = 31.5576 Gs)

Or substantially longer, you might be onto something rolleyes

I was hoping

I was really hoping the map would be out this week, but I guess we'll have to wait another week sad

True.

It is now unlikely it will be released before June 16, which will be the latest calendar date that a 2xxx.10 version has been released since quarterly lifetime maps were introduced.

How about...

How about measuring the release time in MC/A (megacoulombs per ampere)?

Would you believe MegaTesla * Coulombs per kilogram? Megajoules per watt?

(Guess who took a physics final yesterday?)

....

I'm so glad I don't follow these Garmin map updates like I used to... Google Maps, Waze and HERE for the win!

You poor souls. sad

Here's to your doing well on your finals!

Spelling bee

I wasn't sure about the capItalizaTion. I admit it looks weird, but I figured Ampere, Coulomb, Joule, Watt and Tesla are eponyms. I didn't know how that affects capitalization when a prefix is involved.

Regarding the test, I was confused about nearly everything. I couldn't remember how all the units were itemized in terms of kilograms, meters, seconds, and Coulombs. I think I ended up with velocity measured in Tesla-Meter-Coulombs per kilogram. I just left it like that and turned it in that way. smile He's a fun guy, so he probably just laughed and gave me full credit for it anyway.

My main goal in this post is to get units that reduce down to megaseconds (about 11 1/2 days).

hmm update

lets see here waiting for Garmin, droid turbo, windows 10, updates and my wife to get me some beer, seems a lot of time spent on waiting so I think I will get my own beer and go fishing !!

Hook it up!!!

All you have to do is attach your garmin to your computer and start garmin express... don't quite understand all the five pages of postings... seems a waste for nothing...

I don't update every update.

I don't update every update. How often do roads change in your area. It even takes along time for completed road construction to show up. Yearly or twice yearly updates are often enough in my opinion.

Every week

Every week I come back and check this thread. Every week it's the same old stuff. No updated. Of course when the update finally becomes available it will likely take me weeks (or months) to get around to actually installing it.

The ant trails and bird footprints are updated every day.. So yes getting weekly map updates are important

I have to agree with your statement, just someone post it when the update is available would save time going to the last page and see if the update has posted for download yet.

New thread

On the past few updates we have started a new thread when the map was actually available for download. I assume the same will happen with this update.

Fingers hovering over keyboard, several GPS's ready to connect, but not holding my breath. I've got it on good authority that Garmin will NOT release the update one second before they decide to release the update.

There you have the definitive time of release ... take it to the bank.

For me, Garmin software takes 1.4GB of virtual memory, though only 200MB of actual RAM. I'm the type of person who keeps 5 instances of each of 15 high-memory programs open at the same time, so this thread helps me.

This is why I have pretty much given up on Garmin and found alternatives thanks to my smartphone.

Got sick of the constant "failed" messages when updating maps and even Garmin Express... I have no problems updating HERE or using Waze and Google Maps...only Garmin gives me headaches. This is why I only update my Garmin once a year. And I make sure I update at my sister's house because she has 50mbps download speed and that is what Garmin's servers seem to work best with.

I've been using computers to talk to Garmin devices since before there were base maps in the GPS's. Their communication software has always been miserably bad. I can't see that changing.

Garmin Express has worked fairly well for me lately for transferring info to my units, but if I leave it running in the background, it seems to be associated with kernel panics of the Mac system software.

Garmin North American 2016.10 Map Update

Plotted out the number of days between NA map releases on a control chart and Garmin is in control. Overall average number of days is 94 ± 47 (control limits = ± 3 standard deviations). The only interesting pattern in the chart occurred when 2 consecutive releases were > 110 days. This occurred twice and the time for the third release of the sequence was short (63 and 70 days vs an average of 94).
The first map released this year was on March 24 (after 132 days). Average number of days between the first and second releases of each year is 93 ± 11 (1 std dev), which puts the target at June 25 with a range of June 14 - July 6. June 25 is a Thursday. Only 36% of the releases were made on Thursday. Wednesday, with 52% of the releases, is more probable. So my prediction for the next release is June 24. Or maybe June 25. Congratulations if you made it to this point without nodding off.

I like it !!

Each road may not change much, but there are often corrections in the updates that make navigation work better, or the maps learn about certain movements that are not permitted. Also, the points of interest are updated quite a bit for each update, which I find super valuable.

Smart phones work great when you have data coverage, the standalone GPS navigator is awesome when driving in areas without it.

Not sure about the conversion factors, but traveling at 67 mph it's about 1.21 gigawatts (±).

Are you sure those aren't the European versions? They normally come out before the North American maps are released.

Many times "pirate" sites post software with bogus names to get you to download them (which are usually virus-laden), or require you to go to a website to get a "key" after you download the file to unlock it....which gives them your personal info.....and the software is usually bogus anyway - or porn.

NOTHING is "free"....
