What is JCV file name for Nuvi 50 Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2016.10

Trying to find out the JCV file name for the Nuvi 50 Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2016.10 map.

Can someone explain how these files are named and if possible this jcv location at Garmin.

Thanks

JCV file

The jcv file for your nuvi's 2016.10 map will install with the 2016.10 map when the map is released next month. Why do you want a JCV file for a map that isn't yet being offered?

Garmin does not offer a separate download of your JCV file. There was a period of time when the large full-screen JCV file was offered by Garmin as a separate download, but even this is no longer offered. Note that your nuvi 50 never could use the large full-screen JCV file and therefore the default split-screen file installed with City Navigator maps is what you must use.

Your nuvi 50LM receives lifetime maps so I hope you're not trying to get the map a month or two early by going to sites offering pirated maps.

Regarding the file name, my guess is that if your 2015.40 jcv filename is Dxxxxx80.jcv, then your 2016.10 jcv file name will be Dxxxxx90.jcv.

If

If you want to figure out what the file name will be look at:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42659

If you already have the 2016.10 maps then you have some kind of a pirated version and we can't really help you here as it's a violation of forum policy.

As stated above you probably will never find the large JCV file even if you can figure out what the file name will be as Garmin appears to have stopped releasing it for public download.

Why can't the Nuvi 50 use the large full screen junction view file, other than it isn't available for download any longer? You can use it on other Nuvi models that come with split screen views and I don't know why the Buvi 50 would be any different.

Also the Nuvi 50 comes in a non LM version so I agree that he shouldn't have a legit copy of 2016.10 installed, he may not have access to a legal copy even when it is released.

Essential series nuvis can't use photorealistic JCVs

Here's a recent thread on the subject that our strephon sleuthed:

But

But I think they can use full screen JCV pictures which may not be photoreal. In fact AFAIK they aren't.

The large JCV

From what I remember of the large JCV file added to my nuvi 855, the large JCV was photoreal. Is there are large non-photoreal file?

Not

Not that I know of but I have put the normal downloadable Large JCV file on my 3790 (for example) and it's worked fine. So I don't think that photoreal actually makes any difference, the views just show up at whatever resolution they are in. I know the full screen views looked like crap on the 3790. grin

I remember using a full screen view file on one of my Nuvi's ( a 2460 maybe) and it just stretched out the pictures across the screen. I don't have a "essential" Nuvi to test it on so I can't say for sure but I think the large view file will display but may not be pretty or even usable. Since the file is no longer available it's really not an issue anyway.

Yup, I don't have a nuvi 50 or any Essential series nuvi so I can't confirm it either, but we do have a few threads here at The Factory stating that folks who tried to use the large JCV on their 50-series nuvi do not see any JVs.

I have played around with

I have played around with this a couple of map releases ago on a 50 & a 52. You can identify the JV file that comes with the map, it is among the hidden files, but if you try to use the large file it WILL NOT work. I actually moved the regular JV file to the SD card, it worked. I then renamed it so the system would not see it, and loaded the large JV file on the SD card. No go. Name matching, no go. You will not see any JVs at all. I was told on this, and other forums, that the large JV file is of a different format and the 50 series will not read it. I believe it.

And if it only stays up for a couple of seconds, I don't want it anyway. From what I've been able to learn, there is NOT more JVs in the large file than in the small file. Just prettier views. I can live without it.

I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.

The full-screen Junction

The full-screen Junction View Garmin used to provide us had images that when compared to a photograph of the same location made it easier to tell what lane you were supposed to be in by providing landmarks (photoreal junction view). The Essential series uses files with a generic background having no landmarks (basic junction view). I illustrated the differences in this thread and the differences were striking, especially in a tunnel.

Using a split-screen photoreal JCV file on a full-screen device like the 1300 turned out crappy. The 3790 has a higher screen resolution than the 1300, which could explain why the full-screen file looked so sad on the device.

JCV

for the 2016.10 full screen is D1279260A.jcv

JCV

Seems like I tried to use the previous JCV large file on a new map update and it would not display even though I renamed the file.

I would like to update the map and keep the large JCV but I don't think there is anyway to fake out the 1450 to display an older version junction view.

Large JCV

The JCV file which was installed on my 2797 is
D3191170B.jcv at 490 186 kb.

Where did you get the larger file from?

Nuvi 2797LMT, DriveSmart 50 LMT-HD, Using Windows 10. DashCam A108C with GPS.

It

It comes with the update for devices that use the full screen junction views and has the internal storage space to hold it. The Nuvi 755 appears to be one of those devices as posted by alanb on http://www.poi-factory.com/node/44961

His 755 shows:

854,604,102bytes and is called D3060180B.jcv which replaces D3060170A.jcv that was installed with 2015.40

The file that was installed on your 2797 is the FULL split screen file.

Strange, my 3790 ran the full screen version perfectly fine. So I guess I'll have to be contend with the split screen version on a screen almost twice the size.

It

It may have run perfectly fine but it isn't the file that comes with the map update for your 3790. The full screen file used to be available as a separate download but that seems to have ended as of 2015.50, as has been discussed here many times.
