This occurred twice and the time for the third release of the sequence was short (63 and 70 days vs an average of 94).
The first map released this year was on March 24 (after 132 days). Average number of days between the first and second releases of each year is 93 ± 11 (1 std dev), which puts the target at June 25 with a range of June 14 - July 6. June 25 is a Thursday. Only 36% of the releases were made on Thursday. Wednesday, with 52% of the releases, is more probable. So my prediction for the next release is June 24. Or maybe June 25. Congratulations if you made it to this point without nodding off.

Hah!!! This is Great Ranman53! Love it!

Now: If you could just tell us if all of this below comes out to the: "Up to four new map releases per year" which Garmin likes to put in their ad copy to tease us with? Or at least can you tell us how close they are coming to this teaser they put out there? (I think I know the answer: Just barely three now; per year.) Thanks!

Actually, it changed a couple or more maps ago. It's now "you will receive map data updates when and as such updates are made available"

http://www.garmin.com/en-US/legal/lmdisclaimer

so it went from the old 0 to 4 updates a year to the new 0 to infinity updates a year.

Now if only they promised "up to four new Garmin Express revisions per year" twisted

Whaaaaattttttt????!!!

JEEESH!!! Missed that one I guess. I actually purchased Garmin instead of "that other brand" based on the map update feature. And yes, I know about the 'ole legalese stuff and fine print: i.e.: "subject to thumb our nose at this free gimme without notice..." but I didn't think they'd chooch out all they way down to: "Up to NO updates per year" like this. I should know better. Leaves a bad taste there Garmin!

Settle down there pardner. I think CraigW's remarks were a little "tongue in cheek". There is no reason to think Garmin is abandoning us, and their reputation and history of providing superior support to customers of very old devices on map updates is not matched by any other company. So lets just see what happens before we decide they are screwing us.

That said, I do worry a little about the Garmin/Here(Navteq) situation. WIth Here trying to sell their mapping products, and the Garmin/Here agreement expiring in 2015, does make one wonder what will happen.

Re: Abandoning us: "Not Yet"

I'm not upset at all with CraigW. Love his posts (Hi CraigW!) and have for the [just shy of] seven years I have hung out here. I'm glad he put that link in there because I didn't realize that Garmin changed their map terms -again-. I read the info in his link (twice) and my opinion is they have and -did- abandon their deal (I didn't use that other "term/word", but IMO it fits as well). wink They have given their legal notice now (IMO) that there won't be ANY map updates if they so decide. My response to CraigW was partially tongue-in-cheek too: at least the beginning. twisted "Up to 4 free lifetime map updates per year" is/was misleading. Maybe not to the lawyers out there, but it is to me. (I'm not one, and have never played one on TV.) shock

IMO, the free map update deal that -I- got when I made my purchase is done: It's right there in the "fine print". Does Tom Tom's free lifetime maps legal disclaimer read like that? (Hint: NO)

http://us.support.tomtom.com/app/content/id/9/locale/en_us/p...

(Bad T-storms here presently! So bad they woke the whole house up.)

From what I've seen online about the TomTom map update process, they are lucky if they can get it to install at all.

bright side

But if you finally get through this process and get those maps installed you can say, that there is nothing that will kill you, computer wise smile

And after all, is there any better fun for vacation than GPS map update? wink

It all has to do with how many new ad and business locations they have to add to the files.

Seems logical it's the only real way Garmin has to make additional revenue after a device with "Lifetime map updates" has been sold... Perhaps I'm just cynical? rolleyes

Lifetime Maps entitle you to receive map updates when and as such updates are made available by Garmin during the useful life of 1 compatible Garmin product or as long as Garmin receives map data from a third party supplier, whichever is shorter. For the meaning of a product’s “useful life” and for other important terms and conditions, please see Garmin.com

Wednesday, June 24th

If Garmin gets back to a more 'normal' update release, then 2016.10 should be out on Wednesday, June 24th, 90 days from the last update.

I like Wednesday also, but all of this calculating from the date of the last update is not going to help.

The real driving factor in when the update will come out is the page count of the forum thread discussing the release date. That's what we should be analyzing. wink

I'm just hoping to get one

I'm just hoping to get one more update before early August when I take my annual trip to Virginia. Just in case anything has changed along the route in the past year. That's still a month and a half away, so you'd think we'd get another by then.

How much can change on the route??? What do you look for on a route that could create a problem if something had closed.. Freeway signs are great...

Based the version number (2016), it probably won't be ready until the year 2016 ?

That's how is should work logically.

That's what I'm wondering too, but I doubt it since the speed change is very recent. Time will tell.

Maybe we should start some type of pool as to which update will have the speed change. lol

We're not waiting any more n' bully for you that you loaded the HeRe maps!! razz

In fact, while you were busy updating Your here maps, some of us went fishing and I might add they all caught their limits.

A few others went crabing and they've thrown some spectacular crab parties beer and all!

Several went deer hunting. It was so nice the fish and game department spray painted "X's" as targets on the deer for us this year. Although I must admit, some of the venison tasted a strangely like beef!! rolleyes

So you see, while you were laboring away, making backups of your software and then spending countless hours updating your maps, hoping and praying you didn't experience a power failure, the rest of us were having a jolly good time!!! mrgreen

Nevertheless, as a group, we're happy to hear of your success even if the map update you installed is of Brazil! shock

Thanks a lot Garmin. sad

darn

the only updates seem to GE dam there up to v4.1.3.0 now why do they keep updating this program when there is nothing to update with it !! and as far as jvc,s go im also on another site that 2016.10 was leaked with full and lite jvc files and it was posted on may 24 2015 if I hadn't paid for lifetime map updates I would have got it from there, the files from these guys are good no virus or bad files, ive downloaded other things from them and its all good. it just tics me off to wait for the same files off of garmin, it wouldn't be so bad if they were fixing a bug or something but when I compare files they are the same. sorry had to rant for a bit.
im also waiting on win 10 and my upgrade to lollypop 5.1 on my android wait wait wait aaarrrggg

Manifest

The thing that confuses me this map update is that the manifest was uploaded to the Garmin servers in mid May...here it is the end of June about six weeks later and it still isn't available. Didn't the download usually happen within 2 weeks of the manifest before? Why is it so long now?

Well, this is week 26 of 2015 so 2016.10 should be out sometime in the next 6 - 18 months unless it doesn't come out at all.

Garmin will now be releasing GE on a more frequent/random schedule to make up for not releasing map updates. Garmin figures it will keep all of their customers occupied trying to fix everything that GE breaks and the customers will forget completely about map updates...
