July 4th

I guess we're not going to have new maps before the holiday..... sigh.

Yeah

I'm surprised it wasn't released before the 4th...especially since the manifest has been uploaded to the servers 8 weeks ago now.

They should keep it until

They should keep it until January. That way 2016.10 could be released in 2016.

Holiday

Are you referring to the 4th or Halloween?

updates

well one of my updates finally came I went from kitkat on my droid turbo to lollipop 5.1, next I guess will be windows 10 at the end of the month and hopefully garmin 2016.10 before the end of the year, im starting to gain more confidence in the smart phone gps with turn by turn instructions by sygic and it has poi files and if garmin doesn't improve they might loose a customerand I really do like my garmin but as all things gets replaced when it falls behind >

Preferring my GPS Device

While I have an iPhone 4S and do have the latest map apps, I am more comfortable using my standalone GPS. I do not have a mount for the iPhone, as I do for the Garmin, so viewing it and its tiny screen would be a problem. Also the need for cellular data is an issue. Even though I have a Sprint data plan, paid for by my employer, I never use it because it never worked well until about 6 months ago and I am happy to rely on WiFi. In fact, when I eventually have to get off my employers plan, I am considering getting a cell plan without data service and sticking to voice and SMS.

I agree, current numbering makes no sense.

My daughter would say that's a dumb phone, and start chewing her finger nails & crying.

^^^ This is essentially my strategy. I've got the iPhone 5S on ATT GoPhone. My phone bill is $13/mo. I don't have data, but I can SMS and MMS. The HERE app works like a champ. The native Maps program will navigate and works OK if you don't deviate too far from the suggested route. The Google maps application will also navigate without a data link. You must start navigating while connected to wifi - - that's the only gotcha with the native app and Google maps.

Too Long

This seems to be taking longer than usual. Maybe I'm wrong about that but I was hoping it was out by now since I'm flying out west and will need it for areas I'm somewhat unfamiliar with starting on Thursday. Maybe I'll be surprised and will see it in the next few days.

Being released in August they said.

Here is the response I got from the Garmin map department. Looks like we're going to have to keep being patient for at least a few more weeks.

Good morning,

Our North American product is set to be released at the beginning of next month, August.

Thanks,

I was surprised too

CraigW wrote:

I was surprised too. At least maybe this will let everyone take a break from this for a while, instead of wondering every day when the update will come out. We can go back to doing that again in August.

I

I agree, that's the first time I've ever heard Garmin give out a release date.

Wonder if Brandon is a summer intern that's making a release date guess just like we are. shock Wouldn't be the first time we've got misinformation from them.

True, I thought of this too, especially if the message came from "Customer Support." But coming from "Cartography Administration" does make me think it very likely that August (or later if a problem arises) is a correct release date.

It may well be that Garmin is switching to updates every now and then rather than updates roughly four times a year. This could really mess with our future "When's the 201x.xx map expected?" threads, huh? twisted

Well, well, well. Assuming

Well, well, well. Assuming that's true, then my estimate of August, way back on page 1 would be still good.

I seriously doubt if we will be seeing quarterly map updates anymore. Just a hunch.

This reminds me of when I used to have my Navigon. They were very inconsistent with their map updates. Kept everybody guessing. Funny how Garmin eventually bought Navigon and now we're dealing with this.

thank you..

For contacting us, but after many hours of exhaustive research, we've discovered the worl is indeed flat and new maps are no longer needed razz

One hopes they will have the new speed limits for Wisconsin roads that are now in effect.

2016.20?

Assuming the "beginning of next month, August" is correct, Garmin may as well call the map 2016.20. As you can see from the the Europe release date history, there is a precedent for skipping a map version (there was no CN EU 2010.40).
