Garmin's Mac blog

Mac users of Garmin units may want to check Garmin's Macintosh oriented blog. From time to time there are postings about new Mac support (which has improved greatly recently) and downloads.

It is not easy to find on the Garmin site so here is a direct link:

How about a forum for Macintosh Users...

Dear MaryAnn & Jon,

I'd like to see a posting area on the site, that deals with issues relating to and affecting Macintosh users. Almost all the information on this site applies to PC (Windows) users.

Although I agree the ratio of PC's to Mac's is pretty one-sided, it would be great if we (Mac users) had a place to discuss our issues, problems and solutions.

Just my 2¢

Regards,

SP 2720 and Mac (another thread...)

I have been trying to connect my 2720 to my LCD iMac to load POI's via MacGarmin tools. Whenever I attempt to convert files I'm getting an error (Apple Script error, NSInternal script error (8)).

My Mac also doesn't seem to see the GPS at all. I've emailed back and forth with the developer of MacGarmin Tools and we're kind of stuck.

Route Buddy for Mac now does nuvi

For you Mac users I just saw that Route Buddy can now connect to nuvis. It is expensive at $100 plus $50 for a USA map. It does allow routing downloading and uploading, plus POI file creation, which may be useful.

I would be interested in hearing from any Mac users out there who have tried it.

Mapsource for Mac users???

Hi All,

Does anyone know if, and or when, Garmin will have Mapsource software available for Mac OS X users?

The Webupdater and the POI Loader for the Mac work great, but to complete the trifecta, we in the Mac community "need" the Mapsource software, to run on our Macintosh computers.

Thanks for your time.

Regards,

Tailspin

Using Excel to Create POI CSV file

I'm new at this. I have several csv files of some custom POI's that I want to combine into a single file using Excel (Mac version). So I copied and pasted the lines from several files into a single file. I'm using POILoader. For some reason, only the POI in the first row of the Excel csv file shows up in the Nuvi Custom POI's list.

POI .gpx Editor for the Mac platform?

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know of a POI Editor for the Mac platform, that will parse .gpx files and correct any XML formatting errors?

At the moment I'm using MacTools "csv2gpx app." but the resulting .gpx file won't upload to my Nuvi 670. I'm forced to manually add lines of XML code to the file, to make it aceptable for the Garmin's Mac POI Loader, to upload it to my GPS unit.

Brand New - learning the lingo

We rented a car recently and were offered a Garmn to use while traveling. Since we would be driving to Cleveland, Detroit and Milwaukee and not sure where we were going, we thought we would "rent" the Garmin and we loved it. It was life saver as we went from city to city.

POI.csv files with the phone number and no "dial" icon on the screen???

Hi Everyone,

I have a question about a POI.csv file I created. The file displays the name, address "and" phone number, however, unlike the built-in POI's, I can't dial the phone number on my POI.csv, because the "Dial" icon doesn’t appear on the screen.

Hello all I just joined up today, this is just the site I have been looking for. I have the Garmin 2730 and I have been using it on my windows laptop, I want to start using it on my macbook pro. I tried hooking it up to my mac but it is not recognized, the disc that came with the unit is for windows. Is there a way to get the mac to recognize the unit?

MAC and ".gpx" file download problem

I'm downloading the Dunkin Donuts POI on a Mac and it keeps downloading the file as a text (Dunkin.gpx.txt) file which the POI loader is not recognizing. Any help?

Update Installation

I received my 2008 update this week. Haven't read thru *all* the upgrade threads; anybody had problems? It looks like it takes about an hour. Any precautions to take? I want to install it but I'm heading out first thing Monday morning on a long 4 day road trip (Charlotte->Gordonsville VA->Macon GA->Morristown TN->Charlotte) and I want to make sure it is working.

MacGarminTools not correctly labeling proximity alarm POIs?

First off, must say, I just got my nuvi 350. So I'm relatively new to the Nuvi world but have been playing around with a Garmin eMap for a lot longer than I would have liked to. smile

I also have to say Simon's MacGarminTools are excellent - I have used them to create many POI files, complete with audio mp3 files.

Trouble recognizing POI files with MAC

Just got Garmin 350. Registered, etc. POI Loader is installed on my MAC. I am having trouble getting my MAC to recognize the POI files. When synced I see the files I have downloaded but they are "greyed" out like they are not recognized as acceptable file formats. I have tried a few different ones but no luck. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Mac POI Loader versus PC version

I noticed something last night when I was uploading POIs to my Nuvi 200 with my Mac and my roommate's PC.

Mac OSX and sound files-Thanks MM

For those of you like me that use a Mac you may have trouble download sound files from POI Factory’s sound library. With help from Motorcycle Mama my problem is solved. On a Mac do the following:
1.Go to the POI factory Sound Library
2. Choose a sound and click on it.
3.Hold down the Ctrl. key and click on the sound file of your choice.

nüvi 660 & 670 - Hello I'm a Mac :))

My Mac does not recognize custom POI's in the format of .CSV files, only GPX files

My Mac does not recognize custom POI's in the format of .CSV files, only GPX files.
Is there a way to convert CSV files to GPX files?
I am using the POI Loader for Mac_2001 beta and I have a Nuvi 350.
I do have some custom POI's loaded but they are .GPX files.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Len

Charge c330 in a Mac?

Can I charge my c330 by plugging it into the USB jack on a Mac? I assume there are no Mac drivers, so I was wondering if I could avoid bringing my cable, and do my charging via Mac Powerbook.
