Garmin and Escort working together!!!

I am a big radar detector hobbist. Tonight I visited Escort's website (escort, for those that don't know, is one of the leading manufacturers of radar detectors). They have a GPS under the Escort name. It is the Escort c550 (powered by Garmin).

So I guess that Garmin makes GPSs for other companies as well. Many Radar Detector manufacturers do the same.

A co-worker of mine

has a street pilot III (I think). He got it off ebay a few years ago and wants to update his maps. However, Garmin is saying because he isnt the registered user, he can't get an update (even though he is willing to pay for it).

First of all, why is that? That they won't send him a CD.

Second of all, does anyone know a way to get around this?

16 bit error upgrading to Mapsource 6.12

Anyone know a fix for an error I'm getting when trying to upgrade from MapSource Version 6.11.6 to 6.12.2

Got The Nuvi 360

It finally arrived, and I got to try it out. I'm quite amazed with its performance. Brought me to my destination right to the door. The sound is plenty loud enough, I found the screen also bright enough. I've read posts where some people were disappointed with the sound and brightness. The screen is plenty large enough. And the unit fits right in your shirt pocket.

greenhorn newbie ?

I'm very new to this GPS phenomina, just purchased a Garmin Nuvi 680 and am totally hooked. LOL, I turn it on just to listen to the British accented directions (the Autralian voice is great too!)

there are many routes to the top...but, only one view - old chinese proverb...

Site Suggestion

As the site grows, and the POI files with it. It may make sense to have ability to view POI files by state. Not real sure the most effective way to accomplish this but something to consider

Garmin 660; Nintendo DS soft carry case, YM, rd1chaos, Blackberry PIN 30154995, way too many gadgets to list here.

Have you ever noticed... - tech support

Ok, for radar detectors...Bels are some of the top of the line models. however, their customer support stinks. It seems that Garmin is the leading manufacturer of GPS, but their Customer Service stinks too. I wonder why that is.

Why are some POI's needed?

Hi All,

I've loaded some POIs from this site into my Garmin - like the "In N' Out" locations and the Fry's Electronics locations. I see that they are also included in the POIs that came with my device.

Ok, the POI's that came on the device can become stale as they aren't updated as much (I hope) as the csv files that are available on here.

Help with POIConverter program

Does anyone have experience with using the POI Converter program (poiconverter.exe)? I downloaded and installed it. When I try to open one of the .csv files I downloaded from this site, it tells me that the file is not formatted correctly and that it can't open it.

Mass Restaurants

Anyone from Mass? I am going to be there for business and want to go to a nice restaurant. But not Italian. Better yet, does anyone have a POI for good restaurants in Mass? I am willing to drive a hour for a good meal.

microphone for Nuvi660

I purchased a microphone for my Garmin Nuvi660 to enhance the blue tooth function, but when I got home and looked at the manual and it shows the location to where to plug the mike in at the bottom left, I see no place to put this mike there, I only see a place where the headphone jack goes. Anyone know what the deal is???

Star Bucks Coffee POIs ???

I wrote them and told them that they needed POI for their locations, here was their standard response, but hopefully they will listen...

Garmin Nuvi 370

Just bought a new Garmin Nuvi 370. Absolutely love it. It has all the North America maps as well as full European ones, FM traffic receiver, bluetooth...

Any other users with the same Nuvi series? I'm just learning the POI stuff and found this site.

Thanks
Simon

Mounting a C550 in a Mini Cooper

I have a '06 Mini Cooper and trying to find a good location for my c550. I've tried mounting it on the speedometer (with the mount that comes from Garmin, FYI… the speedometer is in the center of the dash between the driver and passenger). It works great but can't see the clock or the mileage. Tried a Ram Mount on the windshield, it makes seeing the road difficult. Any ideas?

Car battery damage from Mobile GPS Navigator use?

My boss said she read in the Wall Street Journal that there has been damage to car batteries from the drain caused by the mobile gps units.

I've been unable to find any information confirming this.

Has anyone heard of this happening?

I'd like to get one for my office team. We'd be using this (Garmin Streetpilot 530) in the company vehicles as well as our own personal ones.

thanks,

Business Men/Women....Just Curious

Ok, most of my travel is due to business. Here is what I want to know from other members. When on the road, how much do you use the GPS to find POIs near you, to find the clients' offices (do you have backup directions?), and such?

What else is in your arsenal for travel? If I am driving (which is the majority of the time) I always have what is listed in my signature.

getting ready for a new server

We continue to see more visitors each week, and last week we briefly bumped up against a space limitation on our main database. There's also been some strange behavior and server time-outs at busier times of the day.

So today, I initiated the process to get a dedicated server for POI Factory. Hopefully, in a week or so, I'll be able to move the site to its new "home" smile

JM

Hello!

Sorry, this is my first post smile

I have a Garmin Nuvi 350.

Anyone have any recommendations for POI's or anything else?

Nice to meet everyone!
