Improving GPS Accuracy When Recording Locations

I have tended to take three coordinate readings for locations being recorded in a POI file and averaging the results. Any thoughts on whether that is a worthwhile approach?

Another thought, you can drop a latitude/longitude marker in Google maps. But I have often wondered how accurate the GPS coordinates are in Google maps. So far I have not observed any discernible discrepancy.

Red Light Legal Problem in my state

It would seem that Bluff City failed to follow new state law that went into effect in July. The new law sets a minimum distance for a change in speed limits before a red light camera.

Sad to admit, but this looks like interest in revenue.

OnStar Will Sell User Data

If you have an OnStar system in your vehicle you may want to disconnect it pretty soon. OnStar will begin selling user data!!!! And cancelling your service won't stop the data collection, you have to actually deactivate the data connection.

Travelling on I-77 on Columbus Day

We are looking at a trip to Savannah and would expect to be driving along I-90 and I-77 on Columbus Day.

This will take us through Pennsylvania and West Virginia, that day. This is the Canadian Thanksgiving, so we have an idea what to expect in Canada. Unfortunately we have no idea if this is considered an extra busy travel day for our American friends in this part of the country.

When traveling to Alaska is best to fly

If you are going to Alaska from the lower 48 it is best to fly or have a large bank account just in case.

Just found this at the US State Dept website:

DOD Goes After Lightsquared

There's been plenty of discussion on POI Factory about the Lightsquared project. Now the Department of Defense is raising the same (interference) objections mentioned so many times here: http://www.defense.gov/News/NewsArticle.aspx?ID=65355

Cheers

Rugby World Cupr 2011

The TV coverage for the Rugby World Cup is pretty poor. The USA v. Ireland match was on NBC, as will be the New Zealand v. Canada match and the Final.

Weird(POI Extra)

Had something very unusually happen this morning, I use POI Extra to manipulate files, I went to use it, well Norton Internet security decided it was behaving unusually, and removed it from my PC, this is not the first time I used it, but the first time Norton IS, actually SONAR decided to remove it, didn't ask if that is what I wanted it to do just did it.

Just introducing

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the site, and new to the world of downloading POI's to my GPS so I just wanted to say hi!

Arizona HOV Lane Access -- Reopened!

Hi All,

Just a heads-up to those who live in Arizona. ADOT has re-opened registration to the next 2500 people who drive pre-approved Hybrids (Toyota Prius and 2 Honda models) to get the Fuel Efficient Vehicle license plates. These give anytime access to the HOV lanes.

I park like an *ss

First the disclaimers:
- while the subject is not exactly about GPS, it does concern driving,
- I do not have any contact with nor do I know the author of the attached link.
